while its been a few years since i have pampered my mom in person, generally speaking, I would say that gifts which hint at housework (ex: a new microwave, or a steam iron, etc...if u do want to do this, try to add a personal note or touch to it) should be avoided.

apart from that, it depends on your moms personality. What are her hobbies or interests? A good homecooked meal, accompanied by a handcrafted special greeting or a flower bouquet (these two steps indicate that you are making personal effort and devoting attention), and then topped off by an activity in accordance with her hobbies/interest would do the trick.

I would like to dramatise the events....for the last few days leading onto the big day, try to act as if you arent planning something big .. and then surprise her big time ! :P I took this route the last time I celebrated my moms birthday, and she was pretty pleased.

S-N, with rubber gloves, a stethoscope, superthick eye-glasses and grey hair (in patches), you would be a really scary kid doctor indeed (H)

Consider it payback for the grief and suffering they impart upon you as you go out of your way to save the world. Besides they also come in handy for cooking food, touching raw meat with your own hands, euw.

LOL @ mash potatoes!

Choosa, I will give Starry's husband to be a cell phone with GPS tracking device as a wedding gift to HIM, and punishment to Starry for questioning my brain power or mental health.

Now if you say Mash Allah, sounds like youre trying to make a potato dish :p need to bring the words together :)

Have you guys ever had a massage? They hurt! Once in Bangkok I had a foot massage, the pain incapacitated me for a few hours. Poor delicate me!

Of course I see its all happening in the Irfani household.

Starry-Night, you could always get her a mobile phone with the GPS tracking service. That way she always knows where you are 24/7. Who needs big brother when you have a high-tech mother?

Give her some expresso martinis, tequila shots, crystal meth and 4 bong hits. She will be all good. (H)

yeah i agree.. day in the spa.. with you accompanying her..

we always start out with the best of intentions ie. at the spa end of the range.. but end up getting our mum a cute jumper (somtthing she actually uses) );

i like the all singing all dancing, baking, cooking suggestions though.. rope in your siblings as well so you don't have to do it all
