Music

I've always pondered this question...but can we listen to music during Ramadan??

Is music a sign of the devil?
I've asked several ppl this question, different answers. Some say that you can listen to music without curse words..others say that it doesnt matter.....

...so can we??

Etern - you're so right! it really is soothing and comforting listening to Quranic recitations while driving.

ya know what's funny - last Ramadan, i had this instinctive inclination to just listen to Quranic recitations on my ipod as opposed to music. i just followed my instincts :)

Im a big music fan, but just a couple of years ago I have cut it to minimal during Ramadhan. A trick for anyone who is interested...when ur in the car (when my radio is naturaly 99.9% of the time on)...drop in a Quranic cd or halaqa kind of lecture instead. When I goto ISNA..always like to pick up the lectures and save them for the car. After a few days..u will notice a HUGE difference.....you feel alot more calm and you feel more connected w/ this blessed month. We spend so much time in our cars....use that time to donate to Allah swt.

If you intrepret the Quran as Hijabijinan has stated, music should not be listened. Depending on how deep your convictions are, that's a personally choice.

I personally DJ on the weekends and will Not DJ/listen to music during ramadan, simply for the reasons listed in the previous post. Although I am not the most religious muslim, I can certainly comply with Allah's wishes and abstain from distracting activities during this holy month. Whatever you decision u choose, happy ramadan..
