Muslims Overreacting, or Tricked Once Again?

By now you should all know what have those inappropriate cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad PBOH triggered.

I personally called the producer and anchor of a well known show on CNBC (both of whom I personally know) and specified to them the following:

?It is important to specify in your show to your guests that the cartoons NOT ONLY depicted the prophet Mohammad (PBOH), but have ALSO depicted him as a terrorist. One cartoon even depicted the prophet wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse.

The fury was not only raised by the simple drawings of the Prophet, but also the portrayal of a Biblical Prophet as a Terrorist.

It's essential to distinguish among the TWO KINDS of depictions to give some sense of the offense to Muslims.?

The both agreed and later modified the description without rubbing it in further.

Do you think we?re overreacting?

Are the protests justified?

What of the Jordanian newspaper editor who decided to print the cartoons because he wanted to show to the public what the fusss was all about?

a great scholar once said...people of Isaac use their wisdom more, while people of Ismail use their emotions more.

Nidal, ironic you should say that, I was arguing this very same thing at home in a discussion the other night. The Prophet s.a.w. has been through way more than this type of thing, (insults, abuse, slander, you name it)...he beat it with actions towards Allah and prayers and du'a.

Imam Qaradawi made a great coment...what would disturb the Prophet s.a.w. more?....a comic about him?...or the situation of this umma where the majority doesnt even practice their prayers?...I think the latter would bother him a heck of a lot more....seeing all these people protesting something about a Prophet they barely know anything about and one they do not follow by actions (ie. and most importantly prayers!, zaka, hajj...etc...)...

It really is sad...that most of these people want any reason to burn flags, destroy and vandalize, showing how great Islam is and what it teaches us....you can rest assured those very people should be concentrating more on their daily "fard" or obligations...that would be more helpful than the dammage they have caused to make the matter worse.

Real reason for the Diversion that happened in Denmark !

Norway was leading a Campaign to boycott Israeli products early in the last few month, and early in January it was going very well and spreading to Scandinavia, Then the Israelis thru their connections
created this diversion for the Muslims / Arabs as they know their emotional state of mind and we see the effects

The Funny and the Irony of the story is that they turned it into a Norway and Denmark boycott by Muslims !!!

If you want a proof go to Google and search for norway boycott :(

There's no doubt that printing the cartoons under the ostensible "freedom of speech" argument can be ripped to shreds, and it's not something that only Muslims have taken issue with. I will say, Plato, that I think that freedom of speech and freedom of the press are very distinct freedoms. And most US press associations would also agree that the freedoms guaranteed to the press fall under the banner of journalistic duties and integrity towards its reading public. The editor of many US newspapers have cited that their freedoms do not entitle them to denigrate segments of the population with no apparent purpose.

And the editor of these papers in Europe understood exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it.

And I'm wringing my in exasperation over the increasing violence of the protestations. How can Muslims possibly protest the erroneous, egregious, and blasphemous depiction of their Prophet's propensity towards terrorism, with violence???!!! Doesn't that scream contradiction to any of them??? Beat your chest in homage to the man (SAW) you claim to defend by betraying his (SAW) legacy. It's not towing the pacifist line, conceding, wimping out. It's using examples from his (SAW) life to derive the wisdom with which you lead yours! How MANY times did Umar (RAA) offer to kill someone who had offended Rasool (SAW)??? And how MANY times did the Prophet (SAW) stop him (RAA)? The Prophet (SAW), among many other things, was a diplomat of the highest measure. He (SAW) was wise to the socio-political context and applied the laws of ALLAH and the wisdom of ALLAH to achieve peace.

Sometimes I try to make excuses for those who engage in these kinds of knee-jerk, fire-breathing reactions. They are an oppressed people for the most part- ravaged by their unIslamic despots, abandoned by the spoils of society that only the rich and wealthy (thereby educated) have access to. But, in the same vein, knowing the deen does not require family status. And at the VERY least, I wish that Muslims across the world would refrain from acting in Islam's name without proper understanding of what the name of Islam requires!

The publication of these cartoons and all of its subsequent backlash is simply a symptom of a greater illness. There is a lack of respect for Muslims (not necessarily of the religion) throughout the world. We have yet to be able to coalesce as an ummah to effectively lobby for causes and issues that effect us. Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to that. But I think individual Muslims fail to recognize the responsibility they have in garnering respect for Muslims. Victims are hardly ever Heroes.

Ooops, here's Mr. Simpson's view (not Homer): news.bbc.co.uk

i don't think there was a trick involved per se, or not at least a new one ... a bunch of hate mongers looking for controversy to raise and by predicting the backlash thought it might contribute to the anit-Muslim sentiments at home ...

it might seem to be 'working' to an extent but i think this VERY sensitivity of muslim masses over one man does show how deeply rooted the faith is when comes to the extremes ... of only the same virgor was prsent when other atrocities r undertaken under the banner of islam ...

the french editor is fired btw news.bbc.co.uk

And what would a "clash" conversation be without a few words from "our Tariq": www.guardian.co.uk

"To describe the clash over the Danish depictions of the prophet as one between freedom and dogma will only fan the flames..."

is it really that they had not "dared", or could it be they have a bit more understanding, and actually know better..

I mean, Spain had it's trains attacked, and the Netherlands has had that "van Gogh" bloke stabbed, yet they jumped on the bandwagon.

Anyway, here's a choice cut from Mr. Simpson (not Homer): news.bbc.co.uk

1. Interesting how none of the London tabloid DARED publishing the caricatures. I wonder if they would have, had July 7 not taken place.

2. it doesn?t help that the Danish flag has a cross on it?

and here?s what Fisk said:

"I happen to remember how, more than a decade ago, a film called The Last Temptation of Christ showed Jesus making love to a woman. In Paris, someone set fire to the cinema showing the movie, killing a young man. I also happen to remember a US university which invited me to give a lecture three years ago. I did. It was entitled "September 11, 2001: ask who did it but, for God's sake, don't ask why". When I arrived, I found that the university had deleted the phrase "for God's sake" because "we didn't want to offend certainsen sibilities". Ah-ha, so we have "sensibilities" too."

"Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that have caused a storm of protest throughout the Islamic world, refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ, it has emerged today".

'ello people.

Now, if the Hazrat Muhammad (saw) was here today, I wonder what he'd make of all this.

The violence is a bit much, but then, as John Doe said in that film "Seven":
Wanting people to listen, you can't just tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a sledgehammer, and then you'll notice you've got their strict attention. .
Side note: now I know I'm quoting a nutter here, but he made sense.

Somehow, some people need to be knocked of their pedestal of ignorance. Persoanlly, I'd have started a leaflet campaign, but I think burning down a foreign embassy is equally effective.
