I agree with sweethun. Assisted introductions are fine and even the marriage is fine if the individuals getting married are happy. But what our parents need to realise is that a marriage not working doesnt mean disgrace for the family. Divorce is a halal process and ours is the only major religion that validates it.
The problem that I have with arrange marriages is the families getting involved. If you meet someone but then as you get to know them you may not like them...you just don't feel it. Families have a hard time understanding and they really want you to work things out with this person. I find there is too much pressure from the families to like the person and then get married.
thats so true...i am also scared of getting hurt in the process..what if i talk to the guy and start liking him and then his family introduce him to another girl...
me too...bc if either one of u gets rejected... itd be soo sad and hurtful right? so when my parents made that decision... i felt horrible.. bc i didnt want him thinking it was me being superficial.. when i never even got to talk to him..etc
I'm all about the arranged meeting, the marriage part takes a bit more time, it isn't like in our parents days where you said yes blindly, the cultures are so different now, When ppl ask me about A.M. and weather I would do it I explained to them its just like a blind date and the courtship is accelerated..if you think about it an average wedding takes about 1 year to plan and in that time you are getting to know the person, In the end I believe if its the right person u know it and feel it in every bone in your body so if with in days u say yes what's the big deal??
Frankly, as much as I appreciate a rational approach to love and marriage, I find these statements hard to believe. I don't believe that anyone can be happy in such a situation, but more to the point, how likely is it that we'll ever know how arranged couples really feel?
you guys are sooooo right! like my last "meeting".. im sitting at some friend of the family's house (neutral place) infront of his mom, sisters, and neices and nephews like i never TALKED to the guy.... never even saw him and then we left... and im supposed to decide based on that????
Then the next day my mom calls me and says we decided we're not going any farther with this rishta... and im like thanks for asking how i feel... and i felt horrrribleeeeeee bc what was the basis for rejection? I would feel horrible if i ever was rejected and to be soo superficial like that... it pissed me off..
my problem with arranged marriage is the way they make you meet the other person....its so awkward and uncomfortable....also i hate the whole sending pic thing...and how can you talk to somebody you just met...i dont know about others but i am very shy and its hard for me...
my problem with arranged marriage is the pressure from everyone involved to make a decision. i cannot make a decision that affects the rest of my life in 2 days. but thats just me.
i agree with u farah..i doont have a prob with arranged marriages because its not like it used the be..the only difference is that the parents bring u the guy..u still talk to each other, see each other, see whether there is that chemistry or not, get to know one another till u feel that there is substance..no one can force anything upon u...u
