My Country Has Made Me Proud

salam...did you guys know that Libya hosted the first ever international quraan memorization and recitation competition for WOMEN ever in the Muslim world??? SubhanAllah, I don't actually know if they broadcasted it on tv, but today they had a broadcast of the awards ceremony and it was absolutley amazing, the organization, the morale of the participants, it was all just fantastic. The prizes were unbelievable...the finalists all won over 25 000 dinars, the highest prize for the overall winner was about 75 000 dinar...also a woman from Ghana said her shahada and became a Muslim...soooo awesome

LOL - gotta love our fixation with shahee. so my brother had an italian friend over a few years back.. they were walking through the house just as my mom finished cleaning the kitchen and routine called for an evening tassa of shahee... family is sitting around, mama is pouring the round of cups and stefano (the friend) walks into the room with my brother and says... 'yo, omar.. is the family downing shots after dinner?'.... because of the small cups - the frickin kid thought they were SHOT glasses.... lol ridiculous. like welcome to the undercover alcohol family that just rounds up the shots post-dinner EVERY night. u really just had to be there.... he was SO mistaghrib.

wallahy sahaftooni 3al ka3ak bil shahee. bas i remember the first time i went to libya when i was about 8 they got me hooked on shahee and khubza. and then my youngest sister got hooked on it there when she was only 2. me and her are addicts untill now. wallahy if i dont have two mugs of haleeb (karnation akeed zay ma galat rihab) bil shahee everyday fil subu7, and in ramadan after iftar wa marat fil suhur....wallahy mush 3arfa sheno yeserlee. but it definitley takes me back to both my days in libya and the emarat (they call it dood-shay there, kaif elhunood :P) MRAYFA YA HO :-

four times bass??? i dunno if this is common practice ...but in musrata, the shahee is always 3al narr literally!! and it depends what area of musrata ur from the tea ranges from 'gi6ran' really heavy and sweet to 'emmayah'...also when people come over fil gayla, fil 3asheeyah, or fil layl you always gotta set up the 3ala with three rounds one 3adee, one with lowz, and one with na3na3. When I leave libya, and i dont drink as much tea, i start to get withdrawl symptoms of an addict.
