My Dad is...
... addicted to eBay.
It started of innocently, as all great tragedies do. He wanted to find some components for his car (foot mats for his Mercedes, 2000 E-class if your interested).
He's not very competent on a computer by the way. So he asks others to check certain things on eBay for him. When he sees any one of my brothers or myself near a computer. Or when a young, innocent, and clearly oblivious niece/nephew comes to visit. They're kids, kids use computers all the time now don't they? Poor kids.
"Lemme finish reading this first, Abu" or "After this e-mail, Abu" is a response I've programed myself to say promptly after his requests.
Now it's getting ridiculous...
"What's the current bid on that Toyota Yaris you found for me yesterday? You know the yellow one".
"The house needs a new phone, check for one, preferably a Philips with four units. Viking has one at ?79.99, Argos have the same one for ?99.99... what's eBay saying?" or words to that effect.
These days we just leave him with a computer turned on, show him the basics, and he's just happy to surf, whilst teaching himself as he goes along. It's like leaving a baby with a new toy and letting him get on with it.
IT studies eBay style!
Maybe for the best, I mean, consumers like my dad only need to learn IT so that they can use eBay, and that's enough. He's even getting used to the touch-pad mouse thingy on my brother's laptop.
I shudder to think what will happen if my mother picks up on this eBay phenomenon.
F*ck, Abu now wants to get a marble fireplace!

I haven't been home in a few days, I fear what he may have bought, or is currently bidding on.
He sounds adorable, at least he's with the programme. Minen can barely turn his mobile phone on and off. And as for collecting voicemail, forget it - though he does wonder what the 'spectacles' symbol on the phone is
Keep :D
