My Two Cents

This is what I've read lately, in case anyone wants a recommendation (or unrecommendation).

The Kite Runner- really good, really touching. Good portrait of Afghan history.

The Jane Austen Book Club- I'm in the middle of it, and I haven't decided if I like it yet. On one hand, the characters take Austen a little too seriously, but it is interesting to hear their take about books I used to love when I was younger.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime- it's a murder mystery (sort of) written from the perspective of an autistic boy. Interesting story.

Angels and Demons- so, I still haven't gotten around to reading the Da Vinci Code yet, but if it's as addicting as this earlier book, I may have to leave myself a lot of time. good book, but some parts seemed a little too much like a movie (main character has a love interest even though it's totally irrelevant to the main story line, etc)

The Devil Wears Prada- I'm embarrassed to even admit I read this! It is so poorly written, and it just got worse with every page. Definately don't read.

Oh and for you Jhumpa Lahiri fans, they are making a movie version of the Namesake. I think this guy from the movie American Desi is going to play Gogol. I really hope they don't butcher the book!

Hmmm. Maybe I was mixing up Curious Incident with something else! I do remember a bit of language though. Oh, and I have a little more info on the movie. It's gonna be released in 2006, directed by the same lady who did Monsoon Wedding, and the guy who plays Gogol also starred in a movie here (Harold and Kumar or something).

yeah, kids are WAY to mature now. As for the Curious Incident, it was released for adults.

Umm - I don't remember anything too mature, just a few swear words. Have you perused the pre-teen sections of bookstores these days? It's scary.

No, some of the language and scenes in the book would definately make this one too mature to be a kids book!

I read the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, it was really good! Did they market that as a kid's book? I can't remember...
