Net Relationships- Do they work?

What is the likelihood of net relationships being successful? Is cyberspace a modern medium of meeting your potential match or do we only use it as an escape from the real world?

Acro- nicely put. Huzu- you should be a marriage therapist. Maybe texting after marriage is a tad better than chatting?

To have a sucessful Net Relationship it is advised to continue chatting instead of talking after marriage!

I think there are more weirdos online than elsewhere...! But you can also meet more people online (half decent asians that is) than you might in real life.. Irfani.. your mates' tales sound scary.. personally I think meeting someone in a bar or club (or on the street) has a higher failure rate than any other method.. go to shaadi.com if you want to gawp at the 100s of indians (500,000?!) who have married after seeing their online friends like, once.. www.shaadi.com

yoamir, "the "net" part of a so-called net relationship should act only as the preliminary method of introduction... not the primary channel of communication and for developing that relationship." - right on brother

I think using the internet is something people should do...personally, it's not like there are that many muslim girls floating around that that I run into casually and once you're out of school, this is probably the case for most people...why wouldn't you use a medium that's available to you? Yeah, if someone wants to lie, they can...at least about appearances. However, people lie to each other face to face as well. The main thing, though, as already mentioned, is to use it as an introduction.

well my last relationship was with someone i met on the net and we lasted a couple of years. i just see it as another medium of meeting people especially if you are too shy to approach someone in the real life situation as doc says...

depends on our intentions but its a good place for shy people coz they dont finds problem interacting with other gender. its not if net relations work or not the real life relations dont seem to work at times as well. its just that truth works always

i know of several couples who initially met via the internet and are now married.....some where even living across the atlantic from one another....I think its all just pot luck. I think you'd be surprised as to how many people are actually meeting people via the internet....its seems to be next best thing to maybe meeting someone in a club/bar/party etc.

so tell yoaamir, what if the girl and the guy r both using the same type of pc windows or mac...then what? will it workout then?

Login to find out (June 6, 2005 at 12:19am)
of course, if the guy is using a windows pc and the girl is using a mac (or vice versa), then there's absolutely no hope for that net relationship to work out.

they're like any other type of relationship. some do work, whereas others don't. having said that, i think it's easier for someone to hide or disguise his/her true self and mold a different perceived identity online... of course, this mask will eventually disintegrate in due time. i think net relationships work out best when the two parties live relatively close to each other... there is absolutely *no* substitute for face-to-face contact. the "net" part of a so-called net relationship should act only as the preliminary method of introduction... not the primary channel of communication and for developing that relationship.

I have heard horror stories from matrimonial sites as well. Both sexes using it to flirt, have affairs, date, both married and unmarried. Also stories of married men looking for a 2nd wife without full disclosure. There are multiple profiles for one person as a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jew, other. A friend who has business with a matrimonial site shared this with me.

I think there are examples.. I know 3.. and there are a few others on naseeb.. some examples anyway.. of people finding their other halves online.. but naseeb is less likely than other sites (some people are on here simply to play games).. I would give it the same probability as you meeting your other half in the street or in a club! Be aware that you'll meet as many (if not more) dodgy people than nice ones using these mediums... if you're serious about finding your match online try a matrimonial site.. like shaadi.com (there are dozens of others).. as the men and women on these have at least admitted they're looking to settle down which few people on naseeb have

The question is 'do people actually find their soulmates here'? whichever way you choose to define soulmate

Login to find out (June 5, 2005 at 4:10pm)
If it is for escape, we can ask Naseeb to add "Escaping . ." along with "I'm here to find a Soulmate". Putting aside the question of whether a soulmate exists or not, or what is the definition of a soulmate, which is more realistic, Escaping or Finding a Soulmate?
