New NSX!
Here is a press release from Honda:
Current Generation NSX Production to Halt at Year End
TORRANCE, Calif. 07/11/2005 -- To further enhance the division's performance image, Acura is developing a new sports car to succeed the award-winning NSX supercar. Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.
"We are committed to having an ultra high-performance vehicle in the Acura lineup in the future," said John Mendel, senior vice president, automobile operations. "It's too early to comment on specifics, but the all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX."
As the first-ever supercar from Japan, the NSX was created as a hand-built, exotic, mid-engine sports car that would establish entirely new levels of performance, refinement and drivability. The NSX went on sale in the summer of 1990 and the following year posted record U.S. sales of 1,940 vehicles. Through June of 2005, NSX cumulative sales totaled 8,854 in the U.S. and more than 18,000 worldwide.
During its 15-year run, the NSX has been showered with accolades including, Automobile Magazine's "Automobile of the Year and Design of the Year" awards, Popular Science's "Best of What's New," Road & Track's "Ten Best Cars in the World" list. Motor Trend magazine also named the NSX to its "Top Ten Performance Cars" list and touted it as "the best sports car ever built."
Acura designed the NSX as a technological and performance showcase. Among other innovations, it was the first production car to feature an all-aluminum body, chassis, and suspension and to utilize titanium connecting rods. It featured a transversely mounted dual overhead cam V-6 engine equipped with Acura's breakthrough VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system and a variable volume induction system.
Over time, the NSX received continuous updates to ensure its competitiveness and popularity with serious sports car enthusiasts. The NSX has also captured multiple championships in the highest levels of sports car and prototype racing.
As soon as this thing is 100%, i am trading in my S2000 and buying it. Absolutely, can't wait. Now, give me a Type R version and i will be in heaven.....

Not to offend anyone if they have the BBSC - because the numbers are great - but I have 2 issues with it - I think its in its early stages and has yet to prove itself as a reliable addition to the NSX. I might be able to live with that - but it doesn't kick in until about 5K RPM - as much as I love to use VTEC - the majority of my driving is below that range - (I don't do the 1/4 mile thing with the youngin's anymore). So after discussing it with Mike Fitzpatrick (builds non-streetable race NSX's - using the BBSC ) I think I am going with CT SC, CT Headers, Taitec gt Exhaust. Reliability is key ? hence the CT stuff.
There is no doubt that a R version would be a different story when it comes to a NSX. It's just so well put together, it's truly amazing. I've had the opportunity to race in an Integra R and it is far superior to any car in it's class.
I'd love to see Honda come out with a R version of a S2000 and NSX for North America but i guess i'm a purist and there aren't many of us around so it simply wouldn't sell in large numbers...
BTW, for those of you who are interested, keep an eye on the FI section of prime in the next month or so(probably so:) ), for my cars debut with the latest turbo setup(going to be offered as a kit). My screen name is Elite. My car should produce some silly #'s, but the kit will be for the stock bottom end people.
And as far as the NSX being a supped up civic... my god, how far from the truth.
Nah, I'll pass. I'd like a car to be as comfortable as possible w/o compromise on reliability and comfort... while delivering an extra high level of performance. I don't have to be the best at one thing (accel or braking or top-speed) but I do welcome being excellent at everything, on a consistent basis.
That is the NSX in it's essence. It's far from perfect, but the closest there is out there available.
While in London, I got to spend sometime w/ a NA2 NSX-R. That car is literally a whole new creation from the NSX, words can't do justice to it. It's blueprinted motor is supposedly rated at 350bhp+.
Here are some basic performance parameters for the NA1 3.0 5spd NSX...
Bone-stock 5spd... 0-62: 5.1-5.3sec, 1/4: 13.6-13.7 (of-course w/ OEM Yokohama A022 or Bridgestone RE010 rubber)
add I/H/E 5spd... 0-62: 4.8-4.9sec, 1/4: 13.2-13.3sec (I= intake fender scoop w/ OEM air-box and aftermarket filter, H= header-manfiolds modified or aftermarket, E= aftermarket, JDM exhaust... all generally add 25-30hp total)
add ECU-chip... 0-62: 4.6sec, 1/4: 13.0-13.1sec
(simply raises the redline to 8500rpms and possibly changes A/F ratios... modest 9-12hp gain)
I'm not a F.I. guy, so I'm content w/ that level of performance. Sure, a 997 TT is faster as is a C5 Z06 (and others)... but not much else!
Different strokes for different folks!
You can turbo/NoS/Supercharge any car and make it fast(er) - the driving experience of an NA car vs. forced induction is totally different let alone a civic vs. an NSX.
hmph
"Afgpartychic lives her life a quarter-mile at a time."
My insiders at Honda Canada tell me it will either be a supercar V8 to battle the likes of a 360 Modena and they will use this same engine in a potential ALMS Acura race car OR it will be a simple sports car to battle a 911 but with a much reduced pricetag(approx 90k CDN compared to 150k CDN they have now).
I guess we'll wait to see but either way it will be a new sports car from Honda. If they ever decide to bring the NSX-R, i will be the first in line to buy. And yes, i will sell my home to buy it! :)
Afg-fobby-chick, you're so funny! Don't get me started on your boring 350Z. :#
but they've GOT to stay true to the purist roots they formed with the current version. Meaning lightweight but solid, high-revving, smooth shifting, and so on.
The following is a thread from NSXprime - don't know if anyone here is a member - but anyone who loves this car will enjoy all of the speculation....
