newcomer introduction
Salams, folks--
I noticed that there are a lot of new members that have not yet introduced themselves! So I'd like to invite all of you in that category (you know who you are!) to tell us a little bit about yourself and your outdoor interests and pursuits. Pretend that you are at a big campfire and we are all sitting around it drinking hot chocolate and roasting (halal) marshmallows. Don't be shy!

Just came across this group, hopefully its still active!
I'm from Toronto, but living in the Cleveland area. Not a lot of camping here but I try to get to either Pennsylvania or Michigan to get outdoors. I am seriously thinking about getting a kayak, just not sure which kind (touring vs. whitewater) - would love to pick the brains of someone in the know. I've done a little camping in northern Ontario, car camped around Iceland and spend some tent time in Chile.
If anyone's in the Northeast Ohio region and interested in getting out there this summer let me know!
I'm from the sfo bay area. I love the great outdoors and love the high one gets in hiking/trekking up the trails and mountains. In Pakistan I have I have gone to skardu, deuai plains, fair meadows, chitral, kaghan, naran etc. I the US I have hiked at the santa clara state park and mission peak. I have my eye set on a couple of other places I want to go. Just need to get in shape first :-). This is a great place to share experiences and motivates others to take the plunge.
I have been very fortunate to grow up in a city with the Rocky Mountains in our backyard.....
Banff National Park is a mere one hour from Calgary and we see Allah's wonder on a daily basis. We also have Jasper National Park and Waterton National Park nearby. The Rockies are truly breath-taking.
Being so close provides the opportunity for me to take advantage of nature on a regular basis, whether it be hiking, picnics, skiing, snowboarding, or even a drive. Whatever the season, there is a something calming about the clean crisp mountain air. It certainly refreshes the soul for those who know what I'm talking about.
I have visited a variety of national parks in various places....all are quite wondrous.
Hope to hear stories from other members....and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about the Rockies....

I'm Muhammad from Michigan. I've gone on several Mtn. biking and hiking trips locally. Backpacked in Colorado, Yellowstone, and the bruce trail in Canada (from tobermory to wiarton). My brother though is the true hiking champ in the family. He through hiked both the Appalachian and Pacific Crest trails.
I would like to start kayaking this year insha Allah.
My name is Hanifah from th e uk..its great to see so many people with the same interests ....and i thought i was unique ..lol
I love the mountains ..i usually travel up north with my clan towards Glencoe, scotland ...great place for climbers, hikers and campers. Its good for fishing too but to be brutally frank i only just about reeled up a bunch of seaweed!!
well hope to hear from you soon .
will post some photos of Glencoe inshaAllah
was salaam
The Canadian Rockies are not to be missed! I did a short tour of Waterton, Banff and Yoho last summer, and it was breathtakingly beautiful. I hope to go again someday and go all the way up to Jasper. I would recommend taking any opportunity you can to go there (in the summertime), and plan to spend at least a week to really see it all.

I live in Roanoke, Virginia. It's a wonderful place if you like hiking, camping, skydiving, kayaking, to name a few. We aren't known for the clubs though we do have a couple of good eat ins. There aren't too many Texas Taverns that I'm aware of.
Here we have access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, and several river/lake systems that prove great for boating or rafting.
I've been over this area and there is always something new to see. I love going to other places though.
I live in Dallas and there isn't much to do here. Last time I went to vegas, I ventured out to Red Rock Canyon and did a little hiking. Hoping to visit Zion National park in the near future.
I recently moved to Seattle, washington. I've always been awed by the beauty of nature, However, since I was a student for the last few years, I hadn't persued some of those dreams..anyways, I recently hiked Mt Ranier, and the Olympia mountains, had tons of fun doing it...so I am looking forward to more hikes and adventures...
I'm originally from NC so I grew up with open spaces, beautiful mountains, and nearby beaches. I love to go hiking, although in the last several years my vacations have revolved around travelling to big cities around the world and haven't focused on the beautiful outdoors.
I recently went to Colorado Springs (Garden of Gods & Pike's Peak) which made me realize that I'd like to soak in the natural beauty that we're blessed with.
I enjoy white water rafting, rockclimbing, and hiking, but hopefully I'll get a chance to expand into other outdoor activities.
I live in Ottawa, Canada (between Toronto & Montreal) and am a huge fan of the great outdoors... so I decided to sign up for this group. I've tried white water rafting, rockclimbing, hiking, kayaking to name a few and I'm always interested in trying new outdoor activities. I absolutely love mountains and oceans, unfortunately living in the central, flat part of Canada (valley in fact) doesn't allow for seeing much of those :(
Finally found some pple in Cali that like to do these things, as I hadn't in NY. Some of these trips are giving me good ideas, ie Grand canyon, Yosemite, etc but are far from me in Los Angeles and would be a weekend trip.
Oh and I LOVE the water and any water sports. have not for the life of me been able to find an all women's swimming pool though.
Hope to be inspired and get tips from you all.
I am doing the Rim to Rim the first week in June. I will be crossing the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the South Rim in one day. Its a bit nuts, but I enjoy the challenge.
I am originally from southern CA a.k.a. heaven :)
But alas have just moved to New England.
I do like the Atlantic coast although the waters are rather chilly. I have kayaked in lakes and rivers before. This year hopefully will try the coastal trip in Bar Harbor. I have been told that this is the best place on northeast coast for nature lovers.
I like all water sports in general (with the exception of crazy ones offcourse). Most people go canoeing or kayaking, I usually prefer the old fashioned row boat if I can help it. I used to rollerblade but haven't done that in a while. A couple of times I tried mountain biking at keystone. I think that was fun now, but back then it was pretty scary.
I have skiied in CO at Keystone and Brekenridge. Last year I tried nordic at lake Placid. It was a lot of fun. You don't feel the rush of alpine but you can take your time and spend a very relaxing day.
What else? oh yes I like to hike but I am not a big fan of camping. At the end of the day, I like to have a good shower, clean bathroom, and a comfortable bed. What can I say, I am spoilt. ;)
I am looking forward to exploring the white mountains here in NH. Let me know if you are aware of good bike/skate trails around NH and Maine.
What a great idea
Hmm... what can I say? The beauty and awe of Allah's creation has no bounds! SubhanAllah!! Be it gazing at the common skies, or exploring the diverse lands and people... somehow it never ceases to amaze me or cause some deep reflection. (As I'm sure it does for you too)
Be it just taking in the view and pondering, or canoeing, hiking, camping, rockclimbing, and learning about the diverse languages and cultures of the world... these are some of the activities I tend to gravitate towards.
It's great to see so many Muslims still interested in the great outdoors and appreciating it's spectacular beauty!
Take care,
wa salaamu 'alaikum

i live in chicagoland.. so as far as outdoors go, we call wisconsin exciting.. just to tell you how boring it is for outdoors around here. but i like to ski.. camp, hike, whitewhater rafting and pretty much anyting where i wont kill myself.. I would love to meet with folks who would want to ski in CO or further west. I'd definitely like to hit the slpes there at least once this year.
ciao
However, my interests have led me to places Rakaposhi /Diran Base Camp, Gilgit, Hunza and Khunjrab Pass, and ofcourse, Ayubia and Nathia Gali among others.
Rock climbing's next though :)
