Now what?
Okay, now that I've joined this "village", what the heck am I supposed to do?
he says Squeeky?!?! :P Yeahh... it is somewhat hypocritical.. but there is no better time than Ramadan to try to cut down, if not completely get rid of our bad habits. And insh'Allah may we all get rid our bad habits. They say it takes 3 weeks to break a bad habit... so insh'Allah.
OH MY GOODNESS THAT'S MY FAVE SARAH!! I love that nasheed so much, he even says my name in it awww And yes, I too cut down completely on music during Ramadan. And from the past, I noticed when I do this for myself, through out the year I find myself listening to less music. It's not something you can cut down all together becuz unfortunately it's so dominant in our daily lives but Ramadan gives us a beautiful opportunity to better ourselves. Therefore, if we set goals and decide this is something we're going to continue with, then insha'Allah ... you will be successful.
I find that it is extremely hypocritical to do things differently than normal during Ramazaan. Yes, if we carry on those things into the next month, then that works. I listen to a lot more naats during ramazaan for sure, but no, I don't stop listening to music. When I have an assignment due, when we're chillin in the house, I listen to it. Ramazaan is the essence of Islam. if you are actually able to stop listening to music cos you're praying, reading the Quran, or doing tasbeeh, that's fine. But otherwise, given that you're not always engaged in worship, listening to music is fine, as long as you're not doing it to pass time- it's more in the background. That's why music is undesirable inthe first place- it takes you to a level of involvement which should only be gained from worship. But I remember reading up on this years ago, and how the trade caravans in the Prophet's time used to sing to themselves cos they were entertaining themselves while engaged in something productive- taking goods to syria for example. Ok I'll shut up now.
to elaborate.... I don't listen to music in Ramadan.. bc the content is usually pretty inappropriate and not really productive... but i do listen to nasheeds moreso in Ramadan... it almost doesnt feel like Ramadan without listening to Zain Bhikha's Nabi un Nabi!

I have a Ramadan type question for all y'all.
Do you listen to music while you're fasting? Do you listen to music at all during the month or Ramadan? Do you listen to music at all?
If you do, then why? and if you don't, why not?
I'm not looking for Fatwa's or Hadith or what some scholor says about the topic. I'm looking for personal answers.
How is everyone's Ramadan goin?
Anybody alive out there?
Jus don't reminisce bout that pesky fro... anything but the fro...!!
