Organics vs Conventional foods...
Is organic food safer and healthier than conventionally grown fruit, vegetables, meat and poultry? Or are you wasting your money paying top dollar for a feel-good label that may be just another dubious marketing ploy?
The answer depends on how much bug spray you are willing to ingest with your food :) !!
I once ccame across a study in which two groups of pre-school children in Montreal were tested to determine whether eating organic food reduced their exposure to organophosphorus pesticides, a class of common pesticides that can harm the developing brain and nervous system. One group of children ate mainly organic food and the other group ate conventionally grown food. It was amazing to find out that the children fed a conventional diet had concentrations of pesticide residues six to nine times higher than the others!!!
the study also discovered that children exposed to high levels of organophosphorus pesticides were at a high risk for bone and brain cancer, and childhood leukemia.
Moreover, thru out all past research studies I;ve found that nearly half of the registered contaminates found in non-organic food samples were pesticides that have been banned due to their toxic properties! Did you guys know that the 10 most contaminated foods are strawberries, red/green bell peppers, spinach, cherries, peaches, cantaloupe, celery, apples, blackberries and green peas!!!
These dayz more and more people r choosing organic food for health, safety and environmental reasons. The concept of organic food is a good one from an environmental point of view too. I think organic is a good way to go and a responsible way to do one's shopping.
These days I?m studying the USDA's policies on food safety and what constitutes foods being organic. It?s simple ? an organic seal tells you that a food product is at least 95 percent organic. In general, organic crops are produced without using conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, bioengineering or ionizing radiation. Organic meat, poultry, egg and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. If you don't want to pay more for organic foods, you can eat fruit and vegetables more safely by removing pesticide residues with water and a natural liquid detergent, such as Veggie Wash citrusmagic.com). For more information on food safety and organic foods you can visit FoodNews.org or the Organic Consumers Association organicconsumers.org). If you choose to buy organic produce or wash away the pesticide residues yourself, you're likely to enjoy a healthier diet and food that tastes better! Believe me it DOES taste mucho better!
Bonne chance ? tout!
