" Allan H. "Bud" Selig is the commissioner of baseball, and he has to decide soon whether Malek's group will be allowed to buy the Nationals. Selig happens to be Jewish, and it was Selig who suspended Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott and fined her $25,000 after she was quoted in the New York Times praising Hitler. (When she wouldn't stop making ethnic slurs, Major League Baseball's executive council forced her to sell the team.) You don't have to be Jewish to be offended by anti-Semitism, of course, but Jews naturally tend to take greater umbrage than gentiles. "

fined and fired.

I find the saddest part of all this is that people are actually dying and killing over this. Wasn't it the bloodshed over slights against honor, and the bloody aspects of tribalism in general, what our beloved Prophet (SAWS) came to end? Since when is human life so cheap as to be a fitting sacrifice to a argument about a cartoon?!

Inspiration -
They don't like us? fine, no big deal.
But then they ask us to accept thier ridicule as part and parcel of being "civilized"? No, i refuse.

bad enough throughout europe muslims play the role of the mexicans here. cheap labor, crowded into ghettoes, barely acknowleged by society. But when these kinds of systematic attckes are levied at them, then i can hardly see any other reaction happeneing.

And yes, there have been a few threats of violence, considering 10% of their population is muslim, it would be amazing that none of those people figured violence was the way to go.
Most muslims haven't started threatening, most haven't taken to the streets in protest.

They love to focus on the few crazies, they love it, cause it "proves" their point.

It frightens the rest of the muslims into silence (who wants to be labeled a crazy extremist after all?)

And it distracts from the point at hand.

i doubt 10% of the Dannish population is threatening violence. no nation would be able to survive such an uprising intact. they focus on the 100 nuts in the crowd, and all off a sudden they've switched the debate from their provocative rascism, to "Muslim's hate freedom" (tm 2001 GWB)

i believe this mess started with a request for an apology.

and the danish pretty much said "f.ck off"
and then the rest of the europe decided to join in on the fun.

the initial reactions where begnin. boycots and protests?
yes it seems to have spiraled a bit, but if this was anyone but muslims, the danes would have fallen over each other in their rush to apologize, and europe would have rung out in it's horror at the rascism.

and i am not even all that offended by the toon. i can't imagine what people who where deeply offended by it must be thinking.

I'm glad someone torched the embassy. I don't define this behavior as extremist. initial reactions where mild, Danes offend = Muslims demand apology
Danes say beat it sand n.gger = Muslims say f.ck you rascist

Europe allied with the danes imidiatly, if it was a " the holocaust was fun for all" cartoon this wouldn't have escalated because
1- the danes woudl have apologized
2- the europeans would not have lined up to support it

the reactions to bad often include threats of violence because that what happens when requests for apologeese are rejected.

yeah, i agree, these demonstrations and riots should not be devisive.
we aren't talking about muslims getting all hot and bothered about piglet (winnie the pooh's friend)
we are talkin about a racist cartoon.
unquestionably racist.

i fail to see how we can be divided on this.
Cartoon = bad
Protestors = reaction to bad

i understand we are far from being top dogs here, but, as Malcom X (yes yes, quoting fallen African American Empowerment Leaders is a good way to be labeled a raving radical, whatever) said, power is never granted willingly, it must be demanded (or something like that)

sitting by and aquiesing to this kind of treatment (Again, we aren't talkign piglet, we are tlaking blatant racist propaganda) is not the right response to this.

it may have gotten out of hand, but it started with a request for an apology, apology was not granted, rather Muslims where told to basically

"shut the f.ck up and behave sand n.ggers"

one party is wrong. one party is responsible for this mess.
demanding justice is never wrong, no matter how powerless you are.

the leftist freiend mentioned earlier would laugh at christians if they where bothered by such a thing, but i would wager it's cause he ain't too fond of those christians.
would he have laughed at it if it was the NAACP and a picture of a black person?

foreward him the link. he can yuck it up about an entire rainbow spectrum of lesser-folk while he's laughing at the Mozlems

z- one side is occupying the other, how can both sides be equally to blame? are you kidding? One side fired missles into homes, the other wants to build a soverign nation on 22% of what wat once entirely their land.
they have signed away their right to 78% of their land, all they want is that last bit, and they are being denied it by a racist imperial state.
zionism is a fascist ideology, look up the defenition.
they are not equally to blame for anything.

in this, like in this whole danish cartoon fiasco, don't buy into their reality. It's a lie.

J - we can't expect the same respect as jews?

this is mind blowing.

don't buy into their reality people, they want you dead, believe me on this. we are all one election away from being rounded up into camps and catching bullets in the back of our collective heads.

your leftist friend can laugh as much as he jolly well pleases. this is not something that he's involved with anyway. The Dannish publiched a cartoon with X person being depicted as Y.
put any race in X and any negative characteristic in Y.

and it would be clear that hte danish are to blame.
ANY race, any negative characteristic.

The west is pissed cause Muslims don't like to be considered their variation of n.gger.

Muslims have done absolutly nothing wrong, blame them all you want, but if everytime someone doesn't conform to their warped absurd version of reality they get up in arms and call us savages, then they can f.ck themselves if htey expect the rest of hte world to play their little games because they think thats the way it should be.

cr.p cr.p cr.p cr.p
LIES LIES LIES

such absurdity.

don't believe it just cause you are told to.
for the love of God, look with your eyes, and make you own decisions.

this is an excerpt from a conversation I had with a collegue today, who swings way way left of liberal. I think the current stance of muslims is making them lose their only allies.

"It's a pointless battle to begin because no one who believes in free speech is going to go any farther than acknowledging that it's unfortunate that offense was taken. Nobody who lives in a democracy is going to take the postion that a newspaper doesn't have the right to print politically sensitive cartoon. I tried to keep an open mind about it when I first heard the story, but then I realized that if it were Christian groups angry about a cartoon depicting Jesus then I would just laugh at them. And there's really not much difference, other than the whole "no depictions of Mohammed" thing, but it's ridiculous to presume that non-Muslims should adhere to that as well.
The Hamas thing is annoying since it seems like most of it is Fatah's fault. If they hadn't been so freaking incompetent and corrupt for some many years, then maybe people wouldn't have made protest votes. But hey, you make a protest vote and you just might get what you asked for, so oh well. I usually tend to fall on the side of Palestine in the Israel/Palestine dispute, and I think both sides are pretty much equally to blame for the whole thing. But it's going to be very hard for me to maintain that postion when one side takes the postion that the other must be destroyed. Oh well, what can you do? "

The protests and the rather misguided boycotts still are not a civilized discourse, which is what is needed most. Shouting about being portrayed as violent isn't the best way to disprove a stereotype. Boycotting unrelated companies strictly due to national origin borders on racism. Accurately targeted boycotts and petitions, and opening an international, interfaith conversation on the responsbilities that free speech carries will help us be both assertive and civil.

Rabbi Michael Siegel, the spiritual leader of Chicago's Anshe Emet Synagogue, who had convened a demonstration in front of the Tribune Tower on June 4, called the editorial a positive step.

---
he's talking about the apology by the paper for publishing an anti-semitic cartoon....

hmm... wonder why the Danes can't be as civilized?

going after Muslims is fair game, clearly, thats allowed

they expect the Muslims to chuckle good naturedly about it do they? hardy har! jolly good show you Danish Azsholes! har harhar

yes. quite clever and witty of you, our prophet with a bomb on his head! my how clever!

you sure got us that time! har har hardy har!

freedom to organize, freedom of expression? burning a flag is freedom of expression is it not?
Didn't the chineese very recently surround japaneese embasies over some prime ministers visit to a graveyard?

the European press was stupid, in reprinting the cartoons as a "supportive" measurre of the Danes they just insult again.

Had it been a charicature of a " greedy covetous Jew, with a hood nose and long fingers" rather than a Muslim prophet with a bomb i doubt they would have reprinted it in support of freedom of expression.

it's insulting, yes.
people protested, they have that right.
then the other newspapers heap it on?
are you kidding me?

do the antisemitic cartoon, israel will complain and the minister of whatever country would probably apoligize.

or at least the paper would.

well said, platoshadow.."nothing to be ashamed of, just cause most of them don't care anymore if someone depicts their God's and prophets in irrespectful ways doesn't mean Muslims all of a sudden have to give up our priniciples."

and the only failure in this whole matter is that the media attention has only led to more further stereotyping and ignorance--not enlightenment. --look at the 'muslim response'--burning flags, several bomb threats... all they say about us is that we overreact. equal and opposite reaction need not always involve violence. i dont follow the passive resistance model, but yeah sometimes boycotting is more powerful than the sword. at least it makes for easier press.

and freedom to be ridiculed doesn't carry with it automatic acceptance of that ridicule.

The protestors haven't done anything wrong.

strikes me that the west is has it's own closed minded double standards itself, but cause they get to define the game everyone is ok with it.

Don't swallow their reality without quesiton kids.

These protesters aren't morons, they are human beings like me and you, and just cause the west paints them as buncha closed minded savages doesn't make them so.

every religion has rules against blasphemy.

so in that regard, yes islam is against free speech.

nothing to be ashamed of, just cause most of them don't care anymore if someone depicts their God's and prophets in irrespectful ways doesn't mean Muslims all of a sudden have to give up our priniciples.

F.ck them, we aren't their lapdogs to heel and beg when they ask us too.

having said that, while Islam doesn't allow us to draw toons about the prophet and company
i personally don't care what a bunch of danes do.

but again, just cause i don't doesn't mean no one else shouldn't

Do we really want people to think Islam is against the principals of free speech? as the German paper said.. Blasphemy is inlcuded in free speech. The principals muslims use to fight for rights in the western world include things like freedom of speech and religon, to use these freedoms we must be willing to be subject to them. Read about all the discourse and humar targed toward Chrisitanity, the only people protesting a deemed right wing relgious fanatics. Since a great majority of muslims already hve that reputation, I doubt more people thinking this is a good thing!
