Paradise Now
If you in NYC go and see the movie 'Paradise now'. Its playing in limited release(started on Oct 28) in a couple independent theatres(Greenwich village, Lincoln center). I saw it last saurday and suprised that I didn't see more muslims there???
The movie has been getting great reviews and many expect that it will be nominated for an academy award for best foreign film.
The basic premise behind the film is about two Palestinian suicide bombers and what is to be the last 48 hours of their life. Without completely supporting suicide bombers or being completely apologetic about it the movie does and amazing job addressing the psychological factors motivating the decision and the social impact of Isreali occupation on the Palestinians living there.
Here is the movie link with the trailer: wip.warnerbros.com
And another link with movie reviews and some movie clips www.rottentomatoes.com
It is also nice seeing a talented Muslim Palestinian film maker getting this much acclaim and awards (especially for a subject that I normally would never expect Hollywood, the media and Warner Bros to support). We should support him and his film by taking our friends to see it(both Muslim AND non Muslim). It it all filmed on location in Israel and Nablus, Palestine. The subject and images will be eye opening for most westerners and Americans who don't have a clue about what its like to live in Palestine and under Israeli occupation. Unfortunately it is only playing in limited release I had to take the train in to Manhattan and payed a high ticket price but it was well worth it.

there is another movie that won some awards, its about the prisoners in gitmo...shud see that one too...
My local blockbuster carries both so I expect most large video stores should also carry them. If not then sign up for a free trial at netflix or blockbuster online.
