Paris and London... hotels? naseebers? advice?

I'm planning a trip to Paris and London at the beginning of July inshallah, for two weeks... any hotel recommendations? somewhere close enough to tourist stuff, but safe and of course cheap?

also, on a side note, i'd be interested in meeting any naseebers who live in london or paris, as I will be travelling solo.

one more thing! any daytrips you would recommend from both cities? i've already been to monet's gardens at giverny... never been to london though, and wondering which daytrips are worth the time? e.g. Bath, Oxford, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon?

tons more questions, but post them later... thanks in advance!

hostels have all sorts of rooms, singles, doubles, up to 10 people in a room. normally the shower/bathroom situation is fine. all the ones I went to were set up like a dorm, where there is a big community bathroom for each level or a bathroom that connects two room which is shared. Most hostels have all female rooms or the option for it. when it comes to privacy, I had plenty of privacy even in my own room cos most people dont spend much time there since theyre traveling. they'll be out and about. If you look up hostels youre intersted in online, theyll tell you about these things. I hope that helps.

Thanks shadowfigure, hostels are a great idea, except I'm not too sure how that would work out for me as a single hijab-wearing woman... I was always worried about the privacy factor... especially when it comes to things such as showering, changing, etc. Maybe you could enlighten me on that...

I went to both cities last year by myself also. Id recommend staying in hostels, instead of hotels. You meet crazy characters from all over the world and end up hanging out with them. Its the best especially if youre traveling alone. In paris, dont stay in monmarte, cos thats where I stayed and it wasnt very good. I also went to Bath and I found it to be a nice peaceful town to chill in. I liked it. The roman baths were interesting. In london, I stayed at a hostel around the picidilly circus area which I found to be very central. Enjoy your travels.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions... I've booked the hotel de l'Avre in Paris (15th arr.) and Vancouver Studios in London (Bayswater area)... I'll let you know how it goes! Actually I've stayed in the hotel l'Avre before, it's fairly cheap if you're looking for a 2 star hotel, clean, and safe in a safe area.

Hi Amanda!

I am a french moroccan and I have been a parisian 6 years!
The best reference to find cheap hotels with great location is a travelguide called le guide du Routard.
Location of the Ibis Hotels is not very good...most often it is in the suburb of Paris.
I have some great friends in paris, muslims...if you want more information, do not hesitate to write me!

July is a perfect time for Paris...enjoy your trip!

Depends where you want to be in London. If you're planning to be in Central London, I know the hotels around Paddington are expensive compared to some. Some B& B places are as expensive as hotels. If you have family or anything like that, it would be heaps cheaper to bum a room off them.

There's lots to do in London, so you better make a list of things you definately want to do. After you've done that, you can hunt for suitable tours. Tours are the way to go if you want to see a lot of things as they're a tad cheaper than going to each attraction and paying separately. I went on a tour you can do at your own pace, it was something like 50 pound, I think. There was a lot of stuff to see and do.

Try to get a National Geographic map of Paris...it's awesome! It has all the subway stops in relation to tourist sites, very easy to read and navigate. I stayed in a hotel called Hotel Brighton while I was there. It was wonderful. Great location in front of Jardin du Tuiliere (sp) and the Louvre, right in front of a subway stop (easy access to lots of places). Very safe and beautiful. Ask for a renovated room if possible. Have a great time, inshallah!! Paris is amazing!!!!!!!!!

Pick up the Lets Go Europe books.... they have a great deal of info on EVERYTHING- food, hostels, daytrips etc...

In Paris- give the Louvre a full day at least (just know you wont get through it all)... also try the Sacre Cour (pardon the spelling) (the white church on top of the hill that overlooks Paris...)

versailles is beautiful in july; visit there! ive been all throughout france (and half on england) but ill always love the french alps the best. but you wont be able to do that in a 'day trip'. when i visit these two countries, im usually a cheapo for the most part when it comes to hotels. in either, i usually stay at an ibis when im not with friends and ill take one night in a really nice hotel, just to even things out. :-) ibis chains are nice, clean & one of the cheapest.
