Correction: the Southern dialiect (spoken in Qandahar) is -not- the purest form of Pashto. Pakhto is actually a purer dialect and Pashtuns such as the Waziris are actually purer Pashtuns than many even in Afghanistan. The origin of the Southern dialiec is actually Iran and was the dialec of Ahmad Shah Abdali from whose descendents are the Durranis. When he defected from the Safawi Empire, Pakhto was already spoken amongst the Ghilzais and they spoke the North/Eastern dialiect (Pakhto).

The Southern/Western dialiect is indeed more pure than what is spoken in urban Pakistani areas such as Pekhawar but it is definitely not purer than what is spoken in some very rural parts of the tribal areas in Pakistan. The Pakistani Pashtuns are not any less Pashtun than the Afghans just because their land was placed by the British in Pakistan. If you compare a Kabuli Pashtun to a Waziri, the Waziri will definitely be a lot more Pashtun even though he's from Pakistan.

I would like to improve and perfect my pashto. i heard about a software called rosetta stone but I am not too sure about that. I primarily want to be able to communicate with most patans (I know it be hard to cover all dialects).

Any online courses or something that can be recommended?

im not sure about that...granted the pashto spoken in cities is kinda mixed...but scorpian friend, the pashto spoken in my tribal areas is one of the purest ive ever heard...but every tribe has a diff. dialect...kakars, achakzais, tareens, although most of these are in the same area, theres a difference in their pashto...
