Passion for Immortal Life (Instrumental)

Hi,

I recorded an instrumental yesterday. Check it out and let me know what you think:
home.comcast.net

It is based on a folk tune often associated with the Punjabi folk tale of Sohni Mahiwal, in which Sohni drowned in the river while reaching out for Mahiwal, becoming immortal in her death.

I realized that it fits well in the key of C major, so improvised on top of it, and layered rhythm in power chords and grand piano with it. There are some hidden messages in it too. :) The guitar effects used here are R-Fier Orange channel with 2x2 Chorus, and the whole thing was produced using Steinberg Cubase SX 3.0 and Propellerhead Reason 3.0.

Thanks,

Bilal

ok cool...yeah, i guess it could be a number of things...but you're right M_ali the cables are also a pretty big deal...i even noticed that when i moved the cables around i would create buzzing noises....anyway, when i get back into doing some recording, i'll have to mess around to get it right. right now, im using reason to come up w/ some techno/instrumental type music....

My buddies record all of their live instrumentaiton to hard disk. They use Audiotechnica 4040u mics driven with a DBX tube preamp/24bit A/D converter. Their stuff comes out warm and crystal clear. It dumps spdif out the back (where it attaches to the workstation). They use this to record a fender rhodes piano, a wurlitzer piano, an upright base, acoustic guitars, flute, sax, and various percussion with incredible results. Following this www.moqita.com will take you to their web site.

Mic inputs on sound cards usually have gain. That can cause noise as well.

mahtab, you can also try changing the cables, that makes a significant difference

Deep, hopefully one day we will record in the studio, when we're ready for it and have proper funds, acid is good enough right now, but more important now is for us to promote ourselves in the islamic circles which is starting to appreciate music and musical events done in all halal manner, its like a new genre thats coming up.............. mabtab, i have a digitech rp100 and i've had trouble with noise on dist. effects. But for some reason it works fine now, i dont know how it happened, maybe it had to do with the line in volume.

cool, thanks for the info DeepBlueGlow....although my effects pedal(s) aren't the best, i would guess that the sound card is what makes my recordings sound like crap...i basically directly plug my digitech effects to the mic in of my computer.

Mahtab: Thanks, and welcome to the Guitars village. :) My guitar is plugged into Boss GT-6 effects processor. Line out of GT-6 goes into line in of Edirol FA-101 sound capture card. And everything else is done by Steinberg Cubase SX 3.0. I don't use digital out of GT-6 because it works on 44 khz and 16 bits and forces the entire mix to sync up with this timing. My master mix is in 96 khz and 24 bit. I should have used bass guitar for the bass parts, but I was quite tired and decided to use the bass VST instrument and played bass on the keyboard. :)

Qazi: Acid has come a long way since version 1.0, the one I used briefly. Are you planning to record in a studio with your band?

cool instrumental...guitars sounds awesome...how do record it so that its so clear w/ distortion? mic to amp? or effects pedal directly to pc soundcard, or other? ive tried numerous times to get my guitar to sound good but it never does. any advice?

adding a real bass would make the song really hot though.

thanks

nice tracks. :) you could probably use a rhythm track in power chords at places on "iraq". what do you use for recording?
