"Perfect Match?"

What happens when you finally find that perfect person and are truely in love. Everthing is wonderful. You can't be happier than you are. But ONE major issue. They are not a muslim?? What now? What if the person is not willing to convert? Z, i thought it would be a good topic to discuss.

Go for it. Life is too short, too many people with too many issues, games, etc. If you are in love, they are of noble character. But that's me.

Ofcourse those who join the religion in a persuation of a man or a woman, might even convert back because they did not convert for God's Message! They converted for their spouse. That also could be because or pressure from their partner. That is why its very important to understand that there is no "forcement" in Islam, and one must clarify before you even talk to non-muslim man/woman with the intention of marriage about the religion.
These days most of the people become b/f and g/f, and they don't even have marriage in mind, which i also find disturbing. We as muslims should not be having b/f or g/f just for the sex sake or relationship sake! We should be looking for someone who u can get married to and work on that! Plus, i think too long into any relationship before marriage always end up bad. I mean if ya'll are in "love" then why not marry the damn person right away? i don't get it.

The Keeper: what you said applies to converts who became Muslims because they loved and believed in the religion. Those who convert because of a man or woman they love and want to marry may not necessarily practice Islam nor identify themselves with it but I won't generalize.

I hope following words clarifies Islamic view on this. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Surah Al-Baqara - 002.221
Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~

well simple solution to this problem is DO NOT date non-muslim men/women because ofcourse over time we develope strong feelings and then end up hurting ourselves.
There is a saying by John Maxwell " If I was to kick a person for all our failures in life, I won't be able to sit down for a week"
So here we go, problem starts from within us, not out side of us.
There is a saying by Imam Malik:
Control your thoughts because they become your words.
Watch your words because they become your actions.
watch your actions because they become your habits.
watch your habits because they become your destiny.

Simmilliar saying is "you form your habits and then your habits form you".
Point is we need to be careful in making choices in life and who we are listening to.

let me preface by saying that (1)i am a product of a catholic/muslim marriage and (2)i know what love is. i have been in love twice and both times the girl was a strong christian. we worked hard to stay together both times... but both of them were very strong christians and wanted to "save me" in the end (as a good christian, thats what you do). i tend to be attracted to women with strong values... but since they were both christian... i set myself up for failure both times. i was VERY close to being married but when the topic of children came up it caused serious problems. so in the end, if you want to date someone of a different religion, thats fine and great, but when it comes to marriage she can't be too strong in her faith or else it won't work... but who the hell wants that?! so thats the paradox.

I hear these stories all the time and its really disturbing...the only question u should ask her (if he is not willing to convert) would be what's more impt to her...to preserve her muslim identity( which goes outta window if she marries a non muslim) or 'love'...(this is relative though,cz it could be the heat of the moment)...

I know Serene.
I know a Paki "Muslim" girl, who is in "love" with this white guy, and he is willing to convert, but she doesn't want him to because she thinks she doesn't practice Islam at all then why should she have him convert to Islam which i find disturbing, but I guess those are the choices you make. It easier to make such c hoices w hen you are young. But when the old age comes blv it or not most ppl regret it.
This one guy i know, he is almost 55 now. Paki guy, married to a catholic woman. Now his kids are 100% catholic and are named Robert etc. I mean now i talk to him, he regrets all what he has done out of love when he was younger. Often he says that he wish he was a strong believer when he was young, because now only him in his family is Muslim.
So the point is be careful what choices we make in life.

i agree with Caarabguy, How can you be sure that you will not find anyone else? I mean life is astonishing as it is. You just don't know how you meet people! Just have to keep the faith and keep ur antena's up.
Also well said on the part that how big of a part religion in ur life. If you don't really care to be a Muslim and don't really care if generations to come also become Muslims, then go for the non-muslim guy and name ur kids John, Robert, etc. But i know for myself, i would not even consider someone who is not willing to convert to Islam, because religion is all i have at the end of the day. All the things are mortal, but ur faith is immortal.

Caarabguy, dont get me wrong, i think its a good idea. But try to explain this to the parents and older ppl. They would totally disagree. I know that for a fact.

Serene, how can you be sure there will never be any other person? You can never be sure but of course in the heat of the moment you will feel that way it is natural.

Paliangel, why is it haram and 3aib? Would they rather have their daughters and sons marry outside the religion? There are many eligible arab guys and girls and the unfortunate thing is that many muslim guys go back to the middle east or asia to marry while many eligible girls are available here and maybe more eligible than the ones back home. Same thing sometimes goes for girls their dad or mom take them back home and get them married. Something is wrong really wrong with us Muslims in this country

if that person is not muslim, your family is going to make your life a hell so forget it.

I have to agree with Desi, (and star wars has a lots of lessons in it). But see..Serene how much of a role does Religon play in your life. Think long term... would you want your chilren to be muslims. If these things don't matter then well give it a go. I have freind .. half Shia and half Sunni. When her father (the shia half) bad talks about the what sunni's did her mother (sunni half )gets upset. There has been this wall in her family ever since she can remember. She her self is lost soul and doesn't know which way to go. Little things may be little but they become big with time. I'm not saying don't, Serene , but what I am say is think clearly about the sacrifices you will have to make and then decide what to do.

I think you all have great points! But, what if this person in life is your soul mate and you are sure there will never be any other person for you. What if you move on and you realize that the person you left behind with be in your heart forever although you are with someone new?
