Hello all ,I'm currently teaching students where English is their second language. What a trip. Talk about patience. I feel like a better, more patient person, elhamdiallah. ;)

I teach grades 1,2,and 3 and that is true about getting them younger is to their advantage because they are like "sponges"
That must have been truly your test. I have the option of helping kids learn English because I know some arabic, but to teach Chinese children must have been difficult. What an experience that is, mashAllah!

I agree. Not to mention, the younger they are, the more patience you need. However, I find that when they are young (very young) it's eaiser to teach them English because they are still learning their own language. I taught in China which was much different than teaching arabic speaking kids. In CHina I had no way to communicate with the kids, I had to repeat things over and over again using visuals and a lot of acting until they got it. THAT taught me the true meaning if patience!

Peace

I am an ESL teacher and I teach student in Grade 1 and Grade 4 who are ESL. You need lots of patience. I find you need to do lots of routine and repetative activities so students can understand.
