Plastic Surgery, Self-Esteem, and Consequences

Not sure if any of you saw Larry King Live last night on CNN...there was an interesting discussion about "plastic surgery junkies" (those addicted to plastic surgery).

One of the guests present was the guy known as "The Human Ken Doll" who has had 37 plastic surgeries, another was a woman who has had 28 plastic surgeries, and one other woman who has had like 10-12 such surgeries. There was also a plastic surgeon on the panel contributing his views about the issue.

***Disclaimer: This discussion is not about corrective plastic surgery but self-enhancing plastic surgery***

A few questions...

1) Do you think plastic surgery is "right" or "wrong"? If "right," to what extent should people have these performed on them and what should be the limit...when should they stop? (consider your answers based on the person's lifespan since some people never stop with "perfecting" themselves until they're old and gray).

2) Do you think that plastic surgery is an addiction just like any other type of addiciton?

3) What do you think is the connection, if any, between "going under the knife" (having plastic surgery) and self-esteem/self-confidence?

4) What do you think are the psychological and physical ramifications of having plastic surgery?

5) Do you believe that we should remain as God created us or that plastic surgery is justified as long as it boosts self-esteem?

6) Do you think that society somehow feeds us the idea of looking "perfect" and "beautiful"? If so, how?

7) Are you happy with yourself the way you are internally and externally? Please be honest.

NOTE: The pic posted is of "The Human Ken Doll," one of the guests on Larry King Live last night talking about his plastic surgery experiences. He has apparently spent $250,000 on all of his 37 plastic surgeries thus far, and claims that he will need to have some more done before he is satisfied with how he looks.

Did you know that there is actually a mathematically defined way that a "beautiful" person should look? I know that there have been numerous studies done by scientists on the issue and it always boils down to one key point- a symmetrical face is always thought of as "beautiful"...babies will stare at it longer than at other faces...adults will admire it more, etc.

It is said that an oval-square type of face shape is the "ideal" shape in contemporary times (contemporary times since the definition of beauty changes and evolves through time). Given that, if you randomly throw together some "beautiful" facial parts (or even body parts) of various individuals, chances are that the end result WILL in fact be hideous.

This is why we should be happy in our own skin as God has created us. At the very least, we should be grateful that thanks to His blessings, we are able-bodied, functioning beings; the beauty bit is icing on the cake.

Hahaha yeah that's him, Aragorn (H)

I have very strong views on changing yourself for self-enhancement reasons. the lengths that people go to in order to mask deep-rooted insecurities! The way I see it, be grateful and happy with what Allah mian has given you and how He has made you, else you run the risk of looking like a true freak of nature like this "Human Ken Doll" guy who, by the way, resembles the complete opposite of the Ken doll...not sure how he ended up with the nickname.

He has to be one of the ugliest sons of b... I have ever friggin seen. What an idiot.

Anyone who gets plastic surgery for a reason other than to correct a clear defect is an insecure moron.
