PROTEIN CONSUMPTION LIMIT

OK, I have heard numerous different things when it comes to protein consumption:

1) Your body can ONLY consume 25-35 grams every 2 hours or so.

2) Your body can take as much NATURAL protein, meaning if you are eating foods such as chicken, steak, or fish, that it is given.

3) Your body can ONLY consume 25-35 grams of artificial protein every few hours or so. It can take in as much as you feed it if coming from a natural source.

So, those are the 3 main ideologies I have heard about protein since actually fixing my ways and trying to eat right. My question to anyone on the panel here is which of these is the truth? Is there more than 1? Are they all false? Just lay it on me cuz it's kind of driving me nuts, not to mention that if I don't have to eat 2 plain, disgusting chicken breasts every 3 hours twice a day (120 grams of total protein consumption for me) I ain't going to. And finally, if the first option is true, how the hell can someone consuming over 210 grams of protein fulfill their protein requirement in 6 meals??? Zee? Aragorn? Inthamix, I know where you stand but support your idea. Lets get it going. Thanks.

My friend, or friend of a friend rather, played football at LSU as an offensive lineman. He said during conditioning camp, the players were on 10-12,000cal/day diets. I sh1t you not!?!

No I'm not on a football team. HA. If I was, why would I start eating like shyt when the season were to begin??? I just meant that when football season starts, I pig out more. It's the winter time and stuff and hanging out with my friends on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and trying to diet right is impossible. I just diet and try getting into shape for the summer and winter I usually try to watch what I eat but I'll actually eat burgers, pizza, and that type of stuff a few times a week. Another words, I'm usually about 15 pounds heavier from November-February. Anyway, Inthamix, I wrote a question man. Which option above is accurate??? They can't all be.

Different bodies have different operating systems, so to speak like computers. It's not even question of maximizing the intake your body can handle, it's about not overloading your kidneys. The liver & kidneys are the make-or-break organs of the body, once they go- it's game over sadly. So anything you consume, whether medicinally or nutritionally, you should be aware that those two organs are the ones that dictate your well-being. TheOutkast, from the best of my knowledge & insights, what you've written above in the journal is accurate. Just remember that exogenous protein supplemenation (outside normal diet, ie. protein shakes, etc) should be taken w/ complex carbs (brown rice, wheat/oat bread, etc) which aid the proteins uptake & metabolism. Rock on!

i tried an intensely protein diet..and it just wasnt working for me..the only thing that can keep me from binging is balancing myself out..having veggies and fruits in my diet as well and carbs too.

ur on the football team? --ya i can see why ur so intense if that's the goal..but what about the rest of the food groups? fruits, veggies, and milk and cheese..where's the balance? and i believe u with the protein..but are u staying within ur calorie limit if ur taking that much a day..and how do u know that the protien isn't just turning into fat or energy..how do u know that its going to ur muscles to help build them (and is it only protein that can help build ur muscles..isn't there stuff in carbs and fat that helps that process as well?)

If you're serious about working out and want to maintain the healthy lifestyle than this is how it has to be. I mean you can cheat here and there but for the most part, my personal goal is to eat right perfectly each day. Until football season that is. Anyway, if you don't take in the proper amount of protein, don't even bother working out. For real. That's a fact btw, hence why this is a very important question.

OMG u guys are intense! I just can't have my entire day revolve around consumption planning--what happens if you go camping? :-P --what's the rush...wait it out, keep your diet normal..and im sure you'll get ur results within half a year...which is good enough (do you compete..or is this supposed to be how you're gonna do things for the rest of your life--cuz i just don't see ur life style as sustainable in the long run)

I think we all consume our protein similarly. The question is though, the consumption limits, is that myth or is that truth? Members have said you can only take in 25-35 g's every 2-3 hours. It would be impossible for someone who takes in like over 300 g's a day to fit that into 6-8 meals even. You feel me? I just wanted to know if anyone knows what the real truth is behind that. Thanks for the input though Shiraz.

i think the protein consumption is closer to around 35-40 grams at a time. everyones body is slightly different, and your body will tell you when youve taken in too much. you start to gas up, and not to sound nasty, but everyone who takes protein, knows what that protein gas smells like. i drink three shakes a day, each shake being 40 grams of just whey protein, nothing else in there. That alone gives me 120, and the rest i get from eating. doing it that way, i have gained 10 pounds in 4 months, so its worked. Youre right about the two hours in between. It takes the body time to process it. so ill eat breakfast pretty early, wait 2 hours, drink a shake, go to the gym, drink a shake after i work out, wait 2 hours eat a decent lunch, wait a bout 3-4 for a good dinner, and then a shake around 9ish. it spreads things out, makes your intake managable and prevents you from having to keep going to the bathroom. hope that helps.
