qbank for step 1

I know everyone keeps telling me not to worry about my percentages on qbank - its a tool for learning etc etc etc.... but does going thru the questions in qbank and reading the explinations and going back to first aid really work? im taking step 1 in two weeks and im getting a bit worried - feel like im not retaining anything :-(

assalamo alaykum. ur gonna enjoy takin step 1. it was a lot of fun. just qbank and first aid and a lot of basketball worked for me. i didnt read the other posts cuz im too lazy but the biggest advice i can give to anyone takin step 1 - be prepared for the day of the exam by building up your taking exam stamina and be relaxed and fresh and ready to go. mental exhaustion is probably the biggest reason why people dont do as good as they should.

you'll be fine...all you can really do is stick to your plan, study, and then take a deep breath and take the test. Either way, it'll be over ;)

i disagree. i'd finish if you can. different people have different strats but i only did 4-5 days of solid studying and 2 weeks of justing doing questions and looking up things and i did fairly well. Still, it depends on how you learn. The key is going at a pace where you can learn from the questions rather than just doing them.

like honestly, there's no point in finishing qbank. would you finish it if there were 50,000 questions instead of 2100? and don't do any questions just before the exam- you'll just psych yourself out .

High Yield Anatomy and Embryology were excellent. There's a High Yield Ethics/Biostats that decent, I just did the Pharm I saw in First Aid and Step up, didn't do subject books for that one... Oh, and I thought QBank was fantastic. Don't worry about trying to finish it (I only know of one person who did), just do lots of questions and look at your stats to guide you on areas of weakness when you go back to read.

q bank was also kind of repetitive in some ways. they'd ask the same question in a slightly different format. repittion is good...but at some level you're wasting your time. don't focus on finishing q bank. just do a bunch of questions.

thanks! i honestly found q bank to be harder than the real thing, and more importantly, they tend to focus on obscure things more. i did get tested on a few obscure things, but they were in first aid....know first aid...use q bank as a question bank, not something to really study from.

congrats noaman! hope it went well for you iA! i cant wait to be done.... one more week! in what way is qbank not representative? too easy, too hard?? its basically where im getting all my practice questions from.....

i agree.. i just took it yesterday. q bank isn't all that representative of the real thing. but understanding the thought process in answering the questions on qbank helps out a bit.

yes...it works...the best way to do it is to take blocks of 50, like in the test...take the test...really thinking about the questions as if they were real (i.e. don't immediately look up answers). Then, go back and read all the questions and ALL the answers...concentrating on why you think they gave those as answer choices. You'll quickly figure out what they're looking for and the traps they're trying to put in to catch you...
