Prom- it didn't work basically because we were very different from the begining and we grew apart on philosophical issues. By the way, my marriage was a 'like-marriage'. Set-up by my first cousin who was also my ex's first cousin. If you'll be my friend, I'll tell you more :>)

Um Irfani.. I can relate to 'Yes, use your voice vs. use your attitude, grumpy face, and when one asks what's the matter, she says 'nothing'' as I have probably done all those things in the past..! eg. using your voice/ having opinions can get you into trouble (probably just my in laws' perception .. and not yours)... having a grumpy face can be a sign that one is depressed with the lousy state of the marriage :( and saying nothing usually happens when one is not feeling heard in a relationship... and no matter what one suggests, it is overridden.. again... my friends' and my experiences.. yours probably occurred for different reasons.

Labs- she never had to surrender because I did not accept the white flage because as far as I was concerned we were not at war or in a game. Meaning I told her, I did not want her to do all those things like she was my servant. Not a major turn-on yaar. Yes, use your voice vs. use your attitude, grumpy face, and when one asks what's the matter, she says 'nothing'.

Jalil.. i don't know any women who bully men because they earn a lot etc.. i meant women who r intelligent or hard working or earn a fair bit.. AND are decent human beings/ nice to their partners as well.. since some men would b so scared by the first bit they wouln't be able to see past it.. Irfani.. interseting anecdote abt ur cousin.. my ex also remarried within a year (a distant family member) so as not to remain unmarried (also makes him look blameless if he only lost a wife for a year..!)... the bit about your wife.. did you sense she was 'surrendering'.. and did this have a -ve effect on your marriage.. would you have preferred her to voice her opinions more.. as i feel 99% of asian women still have to do that surrendering thing (to make their marriages work).. not to the extent that you would move sofas wherever you were told.. but to move wccording to their husband's job needs/ take care of kids/ in laws/ house single handedly

Ok one more story. A distant cousin (not that I'm distancing due to embarassment by association) got divorced at 40. He complained how hard the marriage was, stressed, etc. So I told him to take some time to relax, soul-search what he wants in terms of a new career, wife, etc. He said, "No, I need to get married quickly because I need someone to take care of me" He got married very soon after that.

Labs- that is a common story. If a man is taught to learn basic housekeeping and bending down to wash his paws, we could all get along better and choose to argue about more important things. Another story. My ex-mother-in-law sat me down and told me that she told my wife "to surrender to me" I said What? "I told her to surrender to you. Whatever you want she will do. Go to a movie, move the sofa there, take full care of my daughter, what time and what food u want, etc." I reflexly said "I didn't know we were at war (and that she is surrendering". Inside I was telling her if I wanted to order someone around, I would have simply hired a cook, cleaner, nanny and prostitute, no need for a wife/companion. Luckily for me, my parents forced me to do household chores evenly with my sisters, something I hated back then, but which empowered me later.

Irfani.. rings a bell.. my ex and his mum/ dad wanted him to marry an educated girl who wanted to work.... but told me once married that they would rather i retrained as a beautician (and worked from/ spent more time at home).. apparently my IT degree and job were irrelevant!.. as they needed a full time housekeeper/ someone to wash their feet etc..

My cousin and his wife are both orthodontists. They have their own practice/business whatever it's called in the UK. His wife is the savy business wheeler and dealer. They visited Pak last winter. My cousin was asked by our older male cousins about his practice. He said to ask his wife because she is his boss. The laughed hysterically. He laughed as well and said "no really, I report to her". They were now roaring and coughing up more laughter, applauding my cousin for his insane sense of humour. Background: the cousins on the floor laughing were trained by their notoriously male chauvenist mother who tried to keep her daughter-in-laws in a noose.

Labs- I have heard/witnessed a number of marriages where the mother and/or son were seeking highly educated professionals + beauty. However MOST of them did NOT want their daughter-in-laws/wife to work after marriage. This was so that the man would be the sole provider and there would be no question on who wore the pants. Sadly I have seen women doctors and engineers stay at home after marriage because of the insecurity the husband had and/or his mommy.

Bless you Anotherguy for knowing "Intelligent women Totaly ROCK"______________ Marissa "I don't think many men would say they want a dumb wife. They may want someone intelligent so her smart genes can be passed on".. I agree they can't admit they want a dumb woman.. that will make them look dumb!! I think smart genes will be a problem.. they don't want a smart alec wife .. or smart alec daughters_____________Stajani - "Men do want a woman thats smart but not smarter than him" the inferioirty issue.. maybe this is just what we as women think... men may have a diffferent view...? ie. maybe intelligent men don't have this issue as they're not insecure..

Atif- Amen. No problem here either staying home or her making more money. At one point, my ex made more, and I celebrated and was proud for her. That type of insecurity is a low hanging fruit in my mind that I can easily fix. It is the deeper subtle insecurities I have to figure out and solve :>) Hey Atif, I just caught your last bit. 'stay home with the kids AND THE NANNY' You and the NANNY? ;>0

Its a whole package of course...I wouldnt want to be with a dumb guy. But then again, I wouldnt mind having a guy staying at home with the kids either while I get to make the money. Besides why have a nanny when the guy is there to take care of the kids?? BTW, can this guy also cook for me too??? I wouldnt mind that ;)
