Ramadan and daylight savings time

This is an issue that has puzzled me since I came to the US and I have yet to get a good answer.

This year the 25th day of Ramadan starts at 6:07am (sunrise) and ends at 5:56pm (Sunset). On the 26th, we set our clocks back, so 6:07am yesterday becomes 5:07 am today and we start our fast at 5:07am and end it at 4:57pm. Now the time of actual sunrise and sunset haven't changed at all yet the timing of the fast has changed and its no longer related to sunrise and sunset. Sunrise is still physically at 6:07. Someone please explain this to me...

But we have shifted our clocks back an hour (correct?). So what do you mean sunrise is still physically at 6:07?

What was 6:07 is now being called 5:07, but physically (however you want to think of it, the physical rotation of the earth is the same) nothing has really changed. All that has changed just our labels for that rotation, ie. 607 is now 507.

Sunrise is at 6:07 before time change and 5:07 afterwards, but its the same thing. Do we turn our clocks back at 1am or 2am? Just think of it as us turning our clocks back at 6:07. Then nothing is different physically.

Ok, this wasn't a very precise explanation, hopefully I haven't confused you further.

Hmm...how about fasting at the actual sunrise and breaking at actual sunset. Try to ignore the time changes if they're confusing :) Wa salaam!

sunset would be at 4:57 though :) so you want to go with the sunset in this case and with an almost 12-hour fast (half day). make sense?
