just my opinion from a kind of theological perspective, fasting during this time makes perfect sense. Catholics fast (or used to) during lent to prepare themselves for the Passion and resurrection that redeemed all humanity. Fasting was seen as a way to prepare oneself for the greatest miracle in Christianity and for the direct connection with the Divine.

For Islam, this month is the Axis Mundi (Latin for the 'contact with earth')... it is the one time where God and Earth literally connected in a direct way. It is when God revealed Himself in the grandest sense. To fast during this time cleanses the body and spirit to better receive Him and His message. Without distraction and without food filling us up and with a clear mind and body, we have more room for Him and are cleaner overall so as to better receive His message, inshallah.

Salaam all. Do not forget the fact that this month has been, from ancient times, a holy month and the hanifs even before the time of our beloved Prophet (SAAWW) used to fast in this month. Wasn't Rasool Allah (S) known to go to the cave of Hira for the entire month and fast there?
I know because he would come hope to get provision, and Ali - as a child growing up in his home - would walk him as far as he was able. Have you come across this before? How about employing your own common sense, can you see the truth of it?

Surah Baqarah 002.185

The month of Ramazan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks.
