Ramadan Resolutions: NEW
) YOUR RAMADAN INTENTIONS:
We have to plan for things in life. Actions follow from intentions. So I want to consciously think ahead and make a pact with myself of all the ways in which I will try to be a better Muslim, human being, more Allah ?conscious (which is a natural byproduct of fasting, since hunger reminds us of why we are fasting to begin with), and more focused on worshipping Him and taking advantage of the 70 x blessings we get for good deeds during Ramadan iA. So I think it is important for us to deliberatly make intentions and plans of what we hope to achieve in order to get there actively. And maybe my writing it up and posting it on a JE will help : )
Some of my intentions (have to try my best to make them come true) include:
1. arranging weekly iftar dinners and a Muslim speaker for Muslims in my hospital
2. trying my hardest to do all my prayers on time, whether at the hospital or at home
3. to share kind words as frequently as possible or at least to smile if I?m too tired to talk .
4. go to taraweeh at the masjid as much as possible (it?s great b/c they review what is to be read in English prior to the prayer nightly)
5. stay up during the likely nights of Lailatul Qadr. One masjid in NYC, ie on 96th St has the BEST set up on lailatul Qadr, I mean so good that I lused to look forward to it all year and requested that I be on elective during the month so that I could take the next day off after staying up all night. They have speakers giving Islamic talks for several hours of the night to keep people engaged who may be getting sleepy. It is packed so that there is an awesome sense of brother and sisterhood. Some people are sleeping, others are praying intermittently throughout the night. It?s a big Muslim religious sleepover.
6. read Quran as much as possible with the meanings
7. minimizing time on naseeb
May we all take advantage of the fact that Satan is locked up during Ramadan, and of the extra 70 x blessings that are offered to us for each of our good deeds during Ramadan. May we get that closeness to Allah and to our fellow Muslim ummah in a way that lingers until the next Ramadan. May our sins be forgiven and our intentions be fulfilled and rewarded iA.
