Ramadhan Iftar and Mosque Suggestions

Salam everyone.
So myself being new to NYC does anyone have a recommendation for:

1. Iftar places near Brooklyn Heights. I work near Metrotech Center in Brooklyn and would love to find a halal restaurant nearby.

2. Mosques in Manhattan. Are there any near Central Park South and 6th Ave?

Any suggestions appreciated.

There is a mosque on State Street, walking distance form Metrotech. (lovely brownstone converted) Maghrib is usually 10 minutes after iftaar. And iftaar is provided every night of the week. Isha and tarawih begin around 8:30. If you head over to Altalntic Avenue, also walking distance from there, there are plenty of halal places, Arab owned, not desi.
There is also an Egyptian brother in front of the Marriot who sells halal checken and lamb gyros. He is usually there until 5:30pm only. Very good food, but not helpful if you will be fasting during the day.
Hope this helps.

I think I refer to it as main because it's Big and visible. Plus it reminds me of a lot of mosques in Detroit. When I moved here everyone would mention the 96th street mosque.

Why is the mosque on 96th and 3rd "a main one"? It's big, yes, but how is it "main"? Anyway, according to a fellow naseeber, it is a rather unusual bulding, and has only 1 minaret. I think it's Iranian style mosque...

if you go to that one, please keep in mind that there are quiet a few speakers in each room and so mueththin sounds extremely loud.

There's a small mosque not far from "A" train's Nostrand Avenue stop...It's on Mason Street, do not remember the exact address...The main mosque in Brooklyn is called "Brooklyn Mosque" and is at 543 Atlantic Ave.

Wassalam,

Best place to check is www. zabihah.com. I work in the financial district near a halal arab restaurant: Alfanoose. Usually go to the mosque near my home in Jersey City.
There is also Masjid Al-Farah in Manhattan off of the Franklin Street stop. Do a search on Zabihah and it gives you a tons of listing for NYC area. Only two mosques I know of...Masjid Al-Farah and the main one on 96th street and 3rd ave.

Oh yeah...I believe there is a mosque near the Atlantic Ave shopping Center. There are some islamic stores on Atlantic ave near 3rd ave in Brooklyn. There is a good Yemeni Restaurant around there, I wanted to try it...haven't had a chance.

Hope this helps. :)

Wow dude! Doesn't seem like anybody in NYC is into mosques or fasting ;) I am new here too. If you find the answer to your question, let me know.

Where did all the Rumi lovers go? Jummah anyone? ;)
