I highly, highly recommend reading "Photographic Composition : Guidelines for Total Image Control Through Effective Design" by Tom Gill and Marks Scanlon. It's more of a conceptual book which makes it extremely interesting, yet allows you to apply techniques to the real world as well. If you get a chance, check it out.
