The Mission Masjid project is a fundraising initiative that the Islamic Center at NYU has launched in conjunction with New York University in order to raise funds for the establishment of a permanent prayer space in the downtown Manhattan area. This building will serve as a full-time Islamic Center for the NYU and downtown Manhattan community, insha'Allah.
At the present time, our primary goal is to raise enough funds so that we can extend the lease of our current space and continue to provide services (i.e., Jummah Prayers, Daily Iftars during Ramadan, Eid Prayers, Daily Prayer Space, etc) to our community members, NYU and non-NYU alike.
All donations will be put into a restricted fund set up by New York University's Office of Development and will fall under NYU's tax-exempt status. For more information on Mission:Masjid and on how your tax-exempt contributions will be used, please click here

Imam Zaid Shakir was born in Berkeley, California, the second of seven children. He accepted Islam in 1977 while serving in the United States Air Force and studying for his honors BA degree in International Relations from the American University in Washington D.C. He later went on to earn a MA in Political Science from Rutgers University.
After a year in Cairo, Egypt, studying Arabic, he settled in New Haven, Connecticut and continued his tireless community activism, co-founding Masjid al-Islam, the Tri-State Muslim Education Initiative, and the Connecticut Muslim Coordinating Committee.
