Well....here are my answers:

1) Depends on what you mean by promising. Overall, no its not that promising I will admit honestly

2) I don't know your company well but overall its culture will define what opportunities you will have. Things to consider would be:

- past information - have a lot of people moved from one dept to another?
- attitude of your boss towards people moving around in depts (ie is this encouraged or not)

3) CPAs are in demand and it will help you regardless of when you get it. I recommend get it out of the way asap

4) Well there are a few things you need to do....

- market research...find out what people get paid for a comparable job...look at postings in yahoo jobs or monster....talk to a few recruiters (as if you were looking for a job) all this will give you a good sense

- once you do the above, then you need to assess 'why' the company should pay you more....ie what skillset are you bringing to the table for which they should pay you more

- how easily can the company replace you

5) One should always thrive to achieve higher goals! If you believe you are worth more...then you 'should' ask for more

I am almost done with my degree, and inshaAllah will be taking the CPA.

I am currently working for LXR luxuryresorts.com), i am the area payroll manager for the fort lauderdale hotels. The company is going through major restrucing so, there is alot of problems, confusion of authority, and problems with a boss i report to.

I would like advice on the following:

1. is payroll a promising career path?

2. If i stick with this company, do u think i will have a chance for advancement in other areas of accounting?

3. I am presuing my CPA, but will that benefit me right now?

4. How can i ask my boss for a rise without sounding greedy? Currently, what they have offered me is ok since, i have been working with this new position, I have realized that the pay is lil compared to the amount of work that i do.

5. should i stick to the job without asking for money and try to get ahead?
