I agree with you Fathead and Justicar. I do believe Muslims should not apologize for the attacks. Why apologize for things we dod not do? However, I think it is truly important that we, as Justicar says, speak out, give ourselves a voice, rather than be silent. We cannopt help that people are so highly influenced by misrepresebtative media images, but I think the western world needs to know that the majoirty of Muslims do not align themselves with extremist political groups who claim they are Muslim (I'm trying to avoid using the word terrrist these days). We can only do this by being louder and more active. I think it will be a slow and long process, but this is still better than doing nothing.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear that a number of Muslim organizations did issue statements condemning the attacks--I think it is the right thing to do. Whether we like it or not, people are saying things about us - if not to our faces then at their dinner tables prviately at home. Ayooshaa, I think you are right about Muslims at the forefront ranting about "illogical crap."
More than anything, I'm frustrated with the language used inthe mass media, and frustrated by the ignorance of people here (lack of understanding the history of Muslim countries). So why do they not have evidence of who did it? I thought they did.
There seems to be this expectation that muslims are supposed to apologize for crimes they didn't commit. There is no evidence whatsoever that muslims were responsible for the london bombings.
More of the same old BS. We dont know who really did it and we never will! I'm sick to death of being expected to justify my existence as a Muslim and justify my faith to people who will forever illustrate the most overwhelming ignorance, and who rate Tom Cruises love life as front cover news. But then again, we Muslims are in this position bc as a group of people, we are not untied, we have no self-respect, and to be frank most Muslims at the forefront of everything dont know what true Islam is - instead they rant off mindless illogical crap!
It is simple, we are American (in case you living in USA). This is simple phrase can shut anyone up when you bring this up. There are some who dont shut up but I know how to remind them to history and where their grandparents came from..... But yes it is an issue and we have to deal with it. I tell them I am from Pakistan and people in pakistan are also died from terrorism over there.
