restaurant suggestion in manhattan

hey
my parents r coming into manhattan tonight for my mom's bday. i thought i'd take them to something other than the usual paki dinner. any one know of a good halal restaurant, maybe afghani, maybe turkish, or maybe persian. i guess i'm feeling those cuisines right now and think they'll dig it too...
hopefully i'll get some ideas before tonight...

Asscher - yeah thats good too.. on grand ave - spicy food and good chicken pakoras but the place is too small..and theres always a line... Its very similar to that indian chinese resturant in jackson heights... t"ok of the town" or "talk of the town" ... something like that!! Been there once.

Halal kitchen is really good (awesome hot and spicy beef) - if you like regular chinese (halal) also further down on grand ave.

Then there is Green House in midtown (not as good as Halal Kitchen though) - also regular chinese (halal)

pot's top two in the city. 1.nonhalal---spice market in the meatpacking district---a nice fusion of eastern--indian, thai, pseudochinese, make sure to have their chicken samosas as an appetizer and the ovaltine kulfi as a dessert. Upper end of moderately priced . . . . 2.halal---chinese mirchi--on lexington and 23rd I think, in murray hill. A fusion of chinese and indian. their vegetarian dishes are actually just as good as their meat dishes---the cauliflower appetizer is amazing. Very cheap, they serve beer, which seems like a bit of an oxymoron for a halal place, but hey, if the food's good, the food's good.

and if people have non-halal suggestions, that's fine to me.

we ended up going to bamiyan. it was good. i've had better kebabs (but that was near Pasedena in Glendale, at an Armenian place), but the eggplant and lamb was very nice as well as the scallion dumplings. thanks for the suggestions, tho keep them coming. i still want to find a good deal on the place to go for turkish food in particular. i've heard bad things about the state of iranian restaurants in the area.

Yes you are right, I wouldnt take my mom to Kati Roll for her birthday.
