In our history are _all_ the lessons for us to overcome our present situation. What's more, there is _always_ worthy information to mine even from what some may consider "boring, mundane history." I have extensively read islamic history and understand the cause of the disillusionment of some, but that doesn't mean that we stop mining the lessons that are are sitting there for us, out in the open, to learn and benefit from.

Some questions to pique everyone's interest:
- Do you know how Gibralter got its name?
- Do you know how islam spread in india?
- Do you know how iran became a shia islamic country?
- Do you know why Delhi might still have one destruction in its share?
- Do you know what Carl Sagan called the single most tragic event with regards to its consequences to human advancement?
- Do you know why the Sultanate of Brunei is so rich?

Answer away, and post new questions, (or email them to me) and I'll keep adding them. Salaam!

I know how Iran became Shia: BY FORCE, IRON AND FIRE!! Had it not been to the originally Sufi Safavids (with their 'ghuluw' and ignorance) being led to Shi'ism, then forcing it on people of Iran, Iran would still be Sunni and MUSLIM. A little more than 5 centuries now since Islam lost Iran to the heretic Shia, the Twelver Shia of Iran AND surrounding areas (like southern Iraq, the eastern shores of the ARABIAN Gulf, India, Pakistan, ..) 5 centuries since the establishment of a Twelver state, and more than 1400 years of Islam, the Twelvers are less than 10% of those who call themselves Muslims, YET they claim they are on the Truth!

Indeed, if they were, I'd have to believe Khomeini when he said: "Muhamamd failed in his Message"!

Umer.. history is there for a reason as I see it.

Learning from our past allows us to believe in our future

It gives us hope & faith to trust in something better..

Gibralter.. Gibel Tariq (Tariq's Mountain) the city itself was founded by a Almohad monarch early 7th century AD.

The Spaniards finally captured Gibraltar from the Moors in 1462 and retained it until 1704

happy superman?.

Hey all, it's hard to imagine muslims talking like this!

Whatever happened to learning the lessons of history?
In our history are _all_ the lessons for us to overcome our present supression. What's more, there is _always_ worthy information to mine even from what you may consider "boring, mundane history." I too have extensively read islamic history and understand the cause of your disillusionment Khais, but that doesn't mean that I'll stop mining the lessons there are sitting there for me, out in the open, to learn and benefit from.

Do you know even two of the above answers?

If you don't, how can you possibly say that there's nothing there for you to learn?

To Amna- There isn't anything we can learn from our predecessors as they have not set an example for us. The Nawabs or the Nizam or to name one king is the so called Great Akbar .....i mean Wat is soo great about him that we call him "Akbar the great"?????................

To the one who "losttheplot"......... i have "interest" in Islamic history but what can we "learn" from Islamic history?

There is nothing significant to learn from Islamic history, especially since last 10 centuries. From hopeless Nawabs to warlords, From Turkey to pakistan is nothing but a black pages in history.
