RJJ vs Tarver III

Man r u Guys Excited! I sure am ....I fear for Jones when he was Knockd out by Tarver when the met last time RJJ invincibility "Mr. Unknockoutable Mr. UnTouchable n still..." that was shattered. I couldnt believe what I had just seen, the way he fell to the canvas was unreal. For a whole week I thought about that knock out I hated Tarver. But then reality sunk and I give credit where credit is due. Tarver believed in himself, he was the ONLY man till that pt. that believed he could beat RJJ. I think a lot of RJJ previous opponents were weak n had lost the fight even b4 entering the ring. Not to take any credit from Roy.

WHats ur CALL I wanna hear ur Pick? I wanna hear how u see the fight going down.
Will RJJ Resurrect from back to back KO losses or will Tarver put Roy into retirement.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Tarver a dog. Every fighter he's lost to, he's come back to beat them in a rematch, going back to Eric Harding. But aside from a third fight with Glen Johnson, or Jeff Lacy if he moves up in weight, I don't see any other big matchups out there for him. Joe Calzaghe talks a good game but always seems to come up with an 'injury' so I won't even include him. Who else is out there for Tarver to fight?

Thank you bro.

It is not about talking smack, sister. It was about Roy's arrogance. Talking smack has nothing to do with one's arrogance. He wanted Tarver to attack, but Tarver was smart by being even more patient than Roy. People are saying Roy talks sh!t, which baffles me. The man deserves to talk smack since he proved hims self by destroying his first 50 opponents.

What bothered me was him starring in rap videos, hanging with the wrong crowd, and disappearing humbleness.

"Nofobsplz," so what about the great Ali? He was the ultimate trash talker, but he had the skills to back it up. What about Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins? The man threw rice and beans at Felix Trinidad, and still ended up beating Felix like a little child.

Remember Tarver talking trash against Johnson? Yes, he lost the first time around to Johnson.

Let me take this to a different sport: Basketball is the ultimate trash talk sport. MJ, Bird, and Larry were the ultimate talkers, but their games backed everything up, as well as their rings.

Roy won titles in 4-different weight classes, and that cannot be erased. As for Tarver, I give him props, but this was just the case of "every dog has his day."

Salam sister,

Rudy

I'll give props to Tarver. He owns Roy not because of his own skills. Rather, he owns Roy because of Roy's ego, fear, under estimation, and over estimation.

Roy is like 911 Twin Turbo, while Tarver is like an M3. The M3 is nice, but the 911 Twin Turbo is far superior in every aspect.

G. Johnson is like a Mustang GT, but that is another story in itself.

Salam,

Rudy

Say what "he talks alotta smack n then can't back it up..." girl are u talkin about Roy Jones Junior. FYI Roy has backed what he said he almost every time and had every right to be as cocky as he was! Thats Y he was Mr. Unstoppable Mr. UnTouchable!!!! Man no one could even win a round againts the man let alone even dream about winning a fight. So dont base him off the last 3 fights u Ever saw of him, either that or u got short term memory or what!

Rudy n LuisFigo ya'll need to give credit where credit is due. Think back to Jones vs Tarver I, would u have given Tarver any chance. No cuz Roy wasnt really removed from his peak. Dont forget when RJJ fought Tarver it was his first fight after he embarrased a plodding Ruiz. So Roy wasnt totally off his peak, Tarver pushed him off the peak after the first fight.
Roy Jones was really upset he won a close fight Jones Tarver I. He said he was gonna bring out his alter ego RJJ that we saw in the second Griffin fight. Just accept it Tarver has Roys number. N woulda given Roy hell even at his peak. Not to take nuthin away from Jones but say Tarver didnt beat Roy n Roy beat Roy. Cuz Tarver moved a mountain.

Salam Luisfigo. Yeah bro, Roy was amazing during '97. It came down to Roy fearing Antonio, which he did; fear beat Roy and not Antonio Tarver.

I felt like taking a flight to Florida and jumping in the ring against Tarver, but then realized I would be on stretcher in a matter of a second. I guess every dog has his day.

Roy at his best was the Montell Griffith rematch. The speed and ferocity was scary. He went after Griffith like he stole something, which come to think of it, he did.

Salam sister. Yes, Roy should have lost all three matches. His ego did destroy him in the end. However, Tarver is no where close to Roy during his prime. I compare this to Jordan as a Wizard; people were taking advantage of the former immortal and acting like they actually accomplished something. Those same people (Kobe, Paul Pierce, TMac, and countless others) would have been helpless against Jordan in his prime. Hence, this is the same case sister. No one was able to beat Roy at his peak, but now, it is a whole different story solely because of his mental vulnerability. The only person who I think would have matched up against Roy is my boy, Bernard. Unfortunately, he was not at his peak when he lost to Roy in a decision. Salam.

Salam bro. I think Roy at his mental and physical peak still would have destroyed Glenn and Antonio. It is sad, and I try not to think about it. Roy's two losses were depressing, but this was his chance to walk off into the sunset. It did not happen :o( He still is one of the greatest though. Salam.

Salamz man! I dont mean RJJ was intimidating opponent in the same sense as Tyson or Liston type. Yeah I'll have to agree with u on that one that they werent intimidated b4 the fight. But they were intimidated by his speed his confidence n his reflex ONce they stepped in the ring. Its like everytime u let ur hands go u get hit by something lol. Ur gonna be reluctant to throw a punch.
N Roy was never an offensive fighter. He was more of a counter puncher that would break u down. N when u broke he would go on the offense. He had a low work rate...He couldnt keep with Jhonsons work rate and Johnson has a tight defense...we'll ofcourse RJJ also knew we wasnt invincible so fear addded to it too

N u're absolutely right damn ,,,RJJ was content he survived full 12 rounds, definately Roy should hang it up!

One more thing, it was incredibly disappointing hearing Roy Jones stating that he accomplished a lot just by lasting to round 12. It basically implied that Roy came in on survival instinct instead of the intention of knocking out Tarver.

We will miss you Roy. You are still one of the best ever.

Salam. No, Roy Jones was never an intimidating boxer, not by any means. We are not talking about Mike Tyson, where people lost their bouts prior to entering the ring.

Roy was simply that good. Do you know what the problem was? Roy got too cocky and thought the competition would never match up to his skills. When Roy got knocked down by Tarver, he became a defensive fighter, which deviates from his style significantly. Roy lost to Johnson because he was too defensive minded in the fight. He was not offensive by any means.

When Roy was not a rapper, he was humble and would have destroyed opponents like Tarver or Johnson. Once again, what destroyed him was his fear of being knocked out again, and his arrogance.

He should hang them up since it is like watching the Wizards' Michael Jordan play instead of the Chicago Bulls' Jordan. Then again, we can never take away the man's accomplishment, which speaks millions on what a skilled fighter he "was."

Anyways, it is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree.

Salam,

Rudy

Yeah the fight wasnt the most entertainin but I liked it. Although, I wanted Roy Jones to win but I wasnt surprised the way fight went. I picked Tarver cuz Tarver has the style to beat Roy Jones n lets give credit to Tarver. I dont know if u saw Jones - Tarver I but Roy just squezzed out a decision n the fight I thought was really close. It was RJJs first fight since beating Ruiz for HW and Traver always believed in himself n believed he can beat Roy. When talk about Jab..we'll RJJ never had a jab, its is lightnin quick left hook n striaght right that did it for him. N Roy has never been a voulme puncher...he punched in spurts, no captilized on it till Tarver n Jhonson.

After Jones - Tarver t was the first time people questioned Jone's invincibility. N Tarver beat him the next time with a perfectly timed punch...i saw it over n over again cuz I never imagined RJJ going down like that. N then after that there was the RJJ vs. Glen Johnson fight where Jhonson virtually dominated the fight...till he KOed Jones.
But man Jones didnt take any tunes up ...he is a true champ.

I like RJJ in this one. Although he's not in his prime, I don't see this fight going the way of Leonard-Norris, Duran-Joppy, or Ali-Berbick, where the legend just doesn't have it any more. Tarver's only real weapon is the straight left so if RJJ commits to his jab and circles to his left, he shouldn't have much difficulty staying out of trouble. Barrera uses the jab effectively against lefties (see Hamed fight) so I don't see why RJJ couldn't. Sneak in the occasional lead right and I see RJJ by unanimous decision.
