According to the Roman legend, the origin of the city is traced from "Alba Longa," the chief of the city, Latium. The origin of Alba Longa is traced from the city, Troy in Asia Minor. After the fall of the city, a Trojan hero "Aeneas" fled the city with his father, and guided by his mothers' star, Venus, he landed on the shores of Italy, with his Trojan country men. Aneneas founded the city of "Lavanium," which was ruled by Aeneas descendant Ascanius, who transfered the seat to Alba Long. Alba Longas' descendants ruled the city for 300 years. The city was seized by a prince called, Amulius. To secure his rivals, he ordered his brothers' daughter, Rhea Silivia, to take the vows of Vestal Virgin((Roman mythology) one of the virgin priestesses consecrated to the Roman goddess Vesta and to maintaining the sacred fire in her temple.) Apparently, Rhea Silivia became pregnant with twins, Rumulus and Ramius, by Mars, the god of war. When Amulius found out, he ordered the killing of the twins, but they were saved by the gods. When the twins grew up they officially founded the city of Rome in 753 B.C.
