Tonight (wednesday) at 9 pm on CBC (passionate eye) and airs across canada... A show about North American men who marry brides from back home then abandon them... should be interesting!

I watched the show. It's really horrible that these men are doing this to innocent women just for money. They mentioned one man from Canada who had been married and divorced 4 times to women from India in a short period of time. Divorce is definetely a bigger stigma for women in India compared to here.

Raid, there is a Dowry Prohibition Act in India and something similar in Bangladesh. I am not sure about Pakistan. I think they did something in Ayub Khan's time but I am not sure whether that was for dowry or second marriage.

I didn't knew we actually had laws outlawing the dowry system.

I thought that the dowry system was abolished officially. Too bad we have laws that are never implemented.

I did..It had been interesting. I dont know why, but i am still so shocked to see women being stigmatized for being divorced. Also, what is up with this dowry system?
