Running indoors vs running outdoors

I've been training for a couple of years now. Mainly using weights for my upper body and just stair master and the treadmill for my legs. But after the 2nd mile my chins start hurting. So I started training my legs now which definately helped. I'd like to run more often but the problem is I find it gets boring after the 2nd mile, especially when you're running indoors. Also I find you burn more calories on the stairmaster rather than the treadmill. I've been meaning to start running outdoors, thing is I don't want to miscalculate and end up running to far away from home...

If you get bored running indoors then you should consider cross-training indoors and running outside instead. I don't like running on the treadmill either, and so seperated my training by rowing, biking, stair master and elliptical indoors and then run outside. I find it easier... and you really do need to cross train your non-running muscles to get your endurance up. :-)

hey,
Thanks for the input. I"m in Dallas, not many trails over where I am. Nothing but concrete everywhere :( thought I'd prefer running in the woods. I'll definately look into the pedometer.
Thanks

get a good pedometer. they are kind of expensive but a good investment for outdoor long distance runners. but get one that's like a wristwatch not the one on your waste and make sure it has a glow in dark button if you run at night. or easiest is run only marked trails. not sure what city you are in but google it you will find marked trails
