just heard on bloomberg radio that they have discontinued the 9 train (as of last friday)
- so take the 1 across the platform. if you want to make life easier for yourself and longer, you can just take the 1 from penn station (it goes local) to 116st.

Well I went to columbia. The fastest way from Penn Station is taking the 2 or 3 train (red line) to 96 street then get off and take the 1 or 9 train (which is right across the platform) three stops to 116st and you are there. Should take about 20 minutes.
Is it safe - of course!!! enough cops to scare any thief/serial killer/rapist away. oh... and comubia is columbia right? Just checking! Have fun!!!
