In the Name of ALLAAH, THE GRACIOUS, THE MERCIFUL

-for stormin' norma & the wayward women-

you're so pretty, but you gotta die one day
you're so pretty, but you gotta die one day
how you gonna be when your last breath flies away?
strut all you want to, but you gonna fall some day
go strut all you want to, but you gonna fall some day
sands of time gonna wear yo' pride away
you keep laughin, but you gonna cry one day
oh you keep laughin, but you gonna cry some day
at the end of the road it aint no mo' games to play
so smile all you want to, cuz you gonna sigh one day
just smile all you want to, cuz you gonna sigh one day
life get heavy gonna take yo' light away
you keep runnin but one day you gonna crawl
you keep runnin but one day you gonna crawl
wise man say that pride comes before the fall
you high as a kite, but one day you comin down
you high as a kite, but one day you comin down
blues gon' come when aint noone else around
turn all you want to but you can't turn away
go on turn all you want to, cuz you can't turn away
at the end of the road it aint no mo' games to play
go run all you want to, but you got nowhere to hide
just run all you want to, but you got nowhere to hide
where you gon' run when there's walls on every side?
keep on drivin, someday you gotta pay
keep on drivin, but someday you gotta pay
time keeps turnin, but wheels gon' wear away
jive all you want to, but you got to testify
talk jive all you want to, but you got to testify
lies can't cover what truth gon' bring to light
you on the fence walkin, but you gotta pick a side
you on the fence walkin, but you gotta pick a side
you already done chose if you don't choose the right

AsSalaamu 'alaykum w& RahmatuLLAAHi w& BarakaatuHU

Sameer,

...'declarative styling'... I like that one.

Here's what I think:

I think Muslims should greet & depart with Salaams, even electronically.

I think substance is more important than style, but that style is what makes the substance accessible. Have you ever reflected on the Beauty & Meter of the Qur'an? Check Surat-un-Naba (78) & Surat-Ash-Shams (90), 'inshaa'ALLAH. The Rasul-ALLAH, Sall-ALLAHu 'Alayhi w& Sallam, said in Hadith that "ALLAH Is Beauty, & ALLAH Loves Beauty."

I think poetry CAN be a most pretentious art, & I, in Jahiliyyah, indeed honed my craft in mirth & folly. Now I'm thinking of what else it can be. I'm thinking of Khaleed bin Waleed, Radhi-ALLAHu 'Anhu, who took his shahada & pledged to hang up his sword, because of all the injury he had done to Islam with it. But Rasul-ALLAH, SAAwS, denied him, saying that it was now a weapon for Islam. And he was a greater warrior for it, the greatest warrior of all time; for the sake of ALLAHu Ta'Alaa.

Well, I'm not comparing my self to any of them, but you can imagine what a guy whose good with words can do: start trouble & got my self in & out of it. I "hung up my sword", so to speak, after taking Shahada March 2004. But I'm back..! for the Sake of ALLAH Azza w& Jall.

After that, I don't know what to think, cuz you aint showed me your stuff yet..!

As-Salam-u 'Alay-kum w& Rahma-tu-LLAH-i w& Baraka-tu-HU,
Danyal

AsSalamu 'Alaykum w& RahmatuLLAHi w& BarakatuHU,

Thanx, where's your poetry? I just read a bunch of articles. The freeverse one was good. I think it's limiting to declare a style of poetry. just say 'BismiLLAH-i-RAHMAN-i-RAHEEM' & start writing!..

...then 'declare' if one must, what it is.

AsSalamu 'Alaykum w& RahmatuLLAHi w& BarakatuHU,
Danyal
