When I was travelling around Europe......most of them refer to Americans as War mongerers (sp?). At the olympics in Athens, most of the spectators were from the US but you would barely see ANY american flags unless inside an event because they were afraid of others reaction to them being American. In fact, alot of them were walking around with CANADIAN flags because they found that they are treated better.

Mila.......common over, we'd love to have you here ;)

Canada has no culture?! Well how can you expect an American to know about Canadian culture if half of the Americans living in California DON"T even know that Sacramento is the capital of the state they live in. Thats just one fact that I can remember off the top of my head but we have a show here where a guy in the US goes around testing the 'intelligence' of Americans....its an hilarious show.

Anyways tons of things are part of what make up Canadian culture like all winter sports, Hockey Night in Canada (y'all Canadians know what I"m talking about ;) ) beaver tails, poutin, SNOW, maple syrup, tim hortons, roots, political satire shows (This Hour has 22 minutes and Royal Canadian Air Farce to name just a few), wildlife, walking around with the MAPLE leaf plastered all over you (cuz we are all PROUD to be Canadian), we are known for being polite, for our bilinguilism, muliticulturalism and as peacemakers (UN was started by our Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson), while the US is consdiered to be a melting pot.......we are considered to be a MOSAIC, .....man there has got to be way more but I can't think anymore......oh wait, one last one,

we are into political bashing and most importantly our favorite past time is American bashing ;) hahaha.......

No I dont.

Toronto is world class, and Vancouver looks stunning.

But you have to give credit where its due. Or in this case, no credit where its not due (H)

in the US, students learn a second language too...mostly its spanish.

I am not sure whether the Quebecans want to be with the anglophile Canadians....the past two referendums on this were defeated by narrow margins.

Mali1969, the flow of canadians to the US is far greater than the flow of americans to Canuck-land. Canada is basically a service-based economy with mediocre research and innovation output, while America is a very diverse and research-heavy economy.

Mali1969, theres hardly anything groundbreaking in that Canadian timeline presentation. Infact, manyof the items mentioned werent canadian innovations or discoveries:

1) The AIDs virus was discovered by French and US scientists (SALK), and its origins were discovered by US scientists (UAB).

2) The Human genome map project was launched by the US Department of Energy.

3) Insulin was discovered by a student in Germany, but its practical extraction was patented at UToronto, so I will give you that one.

4) The PC Industry? And Canucks? LOL. The early innovators were the brits (Turing, Manchester) and Americans(Iowa State/ENIAC) and later on the americans took over the innovation of computing, after the brits became lax on this matter.

5) I dont know what Marconi's work has to do with anything canadian...

Canada's cool. Toronto's cool. They just arent hot :P

Yes Canada is a bilingual country. We learn french and english in school. There are several schools where half the day you learn in English and the other half you learn in French.

I know what you are saying Zztopp. Foreign credentials being recognized is a problem in Canada. That is something that the government needs to work on.

surely canada has to be diverse since it has french speaking bits and english speaking bits ?

Your point on the fewer jobs being available in canada is valid. However, I think its wrong for the canadian government to lure in people and foreign investment (via heft immigration fees) by the false promise of jobs and equal acceptance of foreign credentials.

Well we are told in Canada that Toronto in particular is the most multicultural place in the world. We are told U.S. is a 'melting pot' country where people don't retain their own culture and adapt to the U.S. culture.

The population in Canada is smaller so it is harder for people with foreign credentials to get jobs and be certified in Canada.

sweethuneygirl, canada isnt as diverse as the US.

Also, people talk about americans not having any "culture", but tell me, what is canadian culture ?

The US has formed a "culture" over the past 50 years or so, but there is no canadian culture...talking about diversity, canada lures in unsuspecting "highly qualified" people from all over the world in the name of diversity and the promise of a better future, but when these same people land in the country, canada locks them out of the job and opportunity market.

Toronto has the dubious distinction of having the highest educated taxi drivers !
