Secret Dubai Diary BLOCKED by Etisalat in the UAE
Well last week, on Sunday, Etisalat (Emirates Telecommunications Corporation) blocked a blog in Dubai called Secret Dubai Diary www.secretdubai.blogspot.com) without any apparent reason. Despite having her blog blocked in the country, the blog owner of Secret Dubai Diary (a female expat residing in Dubai), continued to post daily and in an attempt to spread word about her blog closure by the Emirati Telecom, SecretDubai published a post titled "Suffering In Silence" which at the time was available via her blog rss feeds that could be easily read via email in xml format.
SecretDubai's blog readers & commenters started a campaign to question Etisalat's actions against the blog on Monday (July 18th) and within 2 days the local media within the UAE were reporting it. By the last weekend news about the blog closure by Etisalat and numerous complaints & emails to the teleco sparked an official response by Etisalat in GulfNews where it was said "Etisalat is not authorised to block websites itself but does refer complaints to the Ministry of Information".
