Shi'a can be loosers too

I will paraphrase A_Jalal, who wrote quite audaciously:

"As a Sunni, I must say sunnis are devoid of a sense of history. They think Yasid is a fairy tale villan. The whole reason for fundamentalism today is because a) Sunnis didn't bother to realize that there is a politisization of a sunnized version of history and that its homogenized to suit the majority. b) Shia's need to be more literary oriented than oral-tradition focused."

I cannot say that I have come across a more succicint summarization of reason(ing) and (an) action-item than this poignant list. I have always mainteined, and have mentioned in my "Learning - " article, that the majority of Shi'a are so singlehandedly focused on Karbala and its aftermath, that they are almost missing the big picture. I mean, what's the point of speaking of Imam Hussain (AS) and his mission, if you do not do implement or further that mission? If its not Karbala, it is the injustices (the Shi'a assert) that took place on the Holy Ahl-al-Bait, starting with Bibi Fatimah az Zahra SA. Hey, is that all we carry? Is there no more contribution we can make? Are we all about the differences, to the exclusion of everything else? Whatever happened to the spirit of islam revived by the likes of Imam Al-Ghazzali and Allama Iqbal? They were shi'a too! (Actually, each of them declared their shi'a-ness at the end of their lives in their distintly final, seminal work. But they did so after having lived a completely sunni life. Does that not speak to us?)

We today can learn from the sunni's a lot of what the imam's of the sunni's learned from our own illustrious Imam Jafas as Saadiq. Things like the importance of praying in the masjid, or praying itself, and of not believing "christian like" (towwy T-dawg!) in "we're saved because we are lovers of the Ahl-al-Bait AS and thus their have intercession". Not! Have you ever come across the article "Am I a Shia"? If you have (and seek it out if you haven't, or I'll post it here when I find it insha-Allah) and are shi'a, you'll feel the terror whirl in your own bowels as a storm starts to brew where you normally like to sit.

Being shi'a is no joke, and to be able to call yourself one is _NOT_ synonymous with beating your chest harder or yelling "Ya Ali" louder. It is about feeling in your heart the reasoning of why people do these things, and let your heart scream out for you, so much that no amount of words or beatings can ever rival the tears that well out of the spring of your eyes, for the truth they feel and tragedy they decry that our fellow muslim brethern do not know the things we know. That's a beginning.

Barring wanting for your brothers/sisters what you have and desire for yourself, you stand in question of even being muslim, what to talk of the honor of calling yourself shia!

Salaam all! Wasn't the whole idea of this village to offer a place for muslims of different sects to come together and learn about our differences? Can't we take the "Gandhi" approach? If anyone escalates, we cease and desist. Lets be the nobler side, and make peace, not argument.

Bro Keeper....i would like to know what scholars made this rediculous statement/fatwa

My uncle works here in London with al-sistani group and al-asr group, largest representives of Shias in UK, and can easily verify this fatwa of its authenticity with prominent london scholars as well as 3 ayatollahs overseas. Please provide info!!

Personally i believe uve been either mis-quoted, or heard some ahmedy or qaddiyani giving these fatwas mistaking them for shias, or beeen a victim of some conspiracy to mock shia fatwas. Either way, i will do my best to prove that shias do not accomodate such belief.

If I'm not mistaken Wazz, I believe those hadiths you transl;ated into english were about a different concept...and werent literally speaking of THE 12 leaders. I'll do some research and get back to you on that.

Wazz, it's understandable where you're coming from...but it also says in that fatwa..."if they dont believe in those..they are kafirs, and should be killed.
Raterhater, if you're ignorant enough to label me as a wahhabi just by pure assumptionm you're not even worth answering.

Raterhater take it easy....when they query us, it is a blessing, even when we are not wise enough to respond....this should serve as a reminder for seeking knowledge rather then id'ing such questioning as a threat or an offensive strike

I found some references from Sunni Sources:

"Islam will continue to be triumphant until there have been twelve Caliphs."
Ibid p1010, Tradition #4480

Narrated Jabir Ibn Samura: The Prophet said: "There will be twelve commanders (Amir) all of them will be from Quraish."
Sahih al-Bukhari 9:329 (Arabic-English version)

"This religion remains standing until there are twelve vicegerents over you, all of them agreeable to the nation, all of them from Quraysh."
Sunan Abu Dawud (Arabic) 2:421, Kitab al-Mahdi. Sunan Abu Dawud (Arabic) 3:106, Kitab al-Mahdi.

Yes it is true that one is Kafir for not accepting the Sunnah of the Rasullallah. Shias confirm Sunnah and the teachings of the Quran were appointed to the 12 Imams after the Prophet (saw) departed from this world. Now we need to understand something here, does this conclude to all others as non-muslims, absolutely not.

Reason: The sunnies also accept the countless hadith referenced to the 12 Imams, though they know it not, they too follow the works of these Imams without acknowledging them as their leaders. Through out the abbasid and ummayah dynasties, our Imams were a pivot of schooling for all muslims, for the shia and the sunni. Primarily history confirms 3 facts:

1. Imam Jaafer (as) was the teacher of the sunni 4 Imams (Hanifa and Malik, and then Hanbali and Shafi who came after the previous 2, referenced much of their learning from the works of the Imam as well as other scholars who were taught by the Imam)

2. Historically proven in sunni and shia sources alike, all 3 caliphas, refered to Imam Ali (as) in consorting with jurispudence as well as seeking truth from the Quran since the Imam of the time was the most acknowledged as Umar himself admitted. (References from sunni sahih kitabs can be requested)

3. Finally, all the hadith in reference to the 12 Imams is sufficient enough to figure if we denied their existence, we deny the Prophet (saw) and the Quran confirms the Prophet is a revelation himself, he does not utter or err....makes no mistakes, so if the Prophet is a talking Quran and we willingly deny his traditions (hadith) then indeed we are Kafir.

Clearly the above should satisfy any reader that the acceptance of the Imams is only Sunnah....though it was the sunnah of our Prophet in his ultimate prophecy. Now if these shia scholars refered to sunnis as Kaafir, please give me their names and also location, im gonna send out an assassin to whack em.

I've read some fatwas by shia scholars that anyone who doesnt believe in the 12 imams (basically anyone outside the ithna ashari"...is kafir....how do you plead?

To be a muslim its easy, the shahada is sufficient, and then if the heart does not breath and inhale the real character of faith which inspires the soul to become possessed by truth and justice, and good practice, then only Allah (swt) is the ONLY judge of those lost souls unless they utter disbelief against the perfected Holy Book and the Prophet (saw). On the other hand "shiasm" according to my personal understanding and that of the Ayatollahs, is not a brand of achievement, nor a distinctive secularist party, and definitely not a self-inspired off-rooting cult. In fact, Shiasm is a Choice, where man limits his own affections, desires, infatuable demands, and becomes a member, according to their best understanding and wisdom from promininent islamic sources as well as leadership, of what proves to be the correct path and lineage of heritable truth. Ofcourse, shias seek as guides and leaders from the promised, or prophesised, 12 Imams.

So any ordinary person who claims to be shia and then willingly goes against the teachings of these Imams cannot be a shia but one who lost his pledge to shiasm, following The Prophet and his Ahlul Bayt (family)

aaah i see. Ithna-ashari is the main branch, infact by definition one is only a shia if he/she is a follower/party of Imam Ali (as) whose guidance serves as a reflection of that what was revealed before Him, The Holy Quran and its Holy bringer of Truth, the Prophet (SAW).

You probably already know, Shiasm detests such people who act outside the inset of Religious Guidance. Imam Baqir (as) said "A Shia is one who acknowledges truth and acts accordingly to conquer his heart in the way of Islam" So even among the Ithna-asharis, who dont seek truth, but are lead to faulter in this life by the epic of desirable lust, materialism and falsehood, are also by large far from being Shia. Shiasm is not a brand, its a path one takes to acknowledge truth.

"iqtul Sunni, tadkhol janni"......that my friend is a political statement, not a religious one, i just wonder which forces of evil divide the sunni and shia, make that barrier stronger between the 2, who are these individuals who exist only to derail the Islamic Spectrum of peace and unity, and best of all who inspires them to make us the muslims weak. I think Nasrullah said it all, in address to the late Sheikh Yassin, spiritual leader of Hamas in his statement "we have shown the brotherhood of unity, i give my brothers and sons to you, and you give me your brothers and sons to me"

Wazz, I am not labelling anyone in specific, but its a common saying between lebanese shia..and I doubt they are ithna ashari by the way. But what I do know is that they are full of hate....especially for Palestinians.

when religion is the result of pure emotion, i.e. not the result of a firm intellectual conviction, things tend to get heated... the only proper way of dealing with this is through education...

only one who is familiar with the pains of research and investigation can appreciate the struggle for the truth... those who are not are the one's you usually find chanting slogans of death on the streets...

Asalaam-o-Alaikum The_Keeper

I might have to question who u refer to as a "Shia" or even better i would like to know who are these so called Shias in Lebanon who deny the itna-ashari (12ver) shias in making such Haram statements such as bestowing favours of heavenly rewards upon those who objectively with their lack of wisdom and Islamic principle encourage killing sunnies.

Ive been a Shia since birth, as far as i can remember all my ancestors are shia, as far as i acknowledge all my ancestors were of Shia origin from Islamic History. Ive travelled to some of the most populated areas around the world where Shias reside. Iran/Iraq/Pakista/India etc etc...here in the UK the 12 Imami shias bond together pretty well, gell together strong enough that we know what is preached in their schools, madrasas, Mosques, etc etc. Ive been to many youth commitees too, where shias all over UK integrate for a day to reflect on talks and lectures, and usually these are young lads, youthful and easily influenced. And from such, In all my 25 years ive never heard any shia, nor read from historical sources of any Shia (12ver) sholar/ayatollah/imam/student etc that killing sunnis promises HEAVEN. Shias dont even preach the killing of any person, christian, jewish, atheist, agnostic to be heavenly rewarding. Ofcourse just as our Sunni brothers and sisters, we also understand Jihad and when it is permissable, usually employed defensively only for the protection of ones life, property, religion, etc. Sunnies are no threat to us why would killing them be rewarding, beats me dude, plus the majority of my mates at my locals are sunni, shouldnt this conclude to sunni pals being forbidden if killing them was obligatory or a free ticket to heaven?

there is all kinds of allegations Wazz...on both ends...you dont know how much I've heard the phrase from Lebanese shia "iqtul Sunni, tadkhol janni"...in literal meaning "killa sunni and you enter paradise". Obviously the authenticity of such is suspect. So I wouldnt take that to be etched in stone...but I'll tel you one thing. It is even more tense up there between sunni and shia....
