Spirit of Pakistan...Made in the Uk

Spirit of Pakistan...Made in the Uk
Just a lil personal journal on our event on Sunday November 27th, 2005...WE DID IT, GUYS!!! P:

The day began while everyone was still sleeping...awoken to the sound of the phone, which beeped non stop...we arrived at the country club and the fashion show models were rehearsing...there was an air of anticipation...only katya was in the changing room, we had a chat while i did my nails...in the meantime labs came in and out, in the Crystal Hall the DJ (Nush) was setting up with music man metroman on hand and there was a buzz of activity...people started to arrive and collect in the lobby...as usual most people were late..including most of the entertainers!!! the show started a little later, but to a full house...A bag of nerves we finally began...most of the faces were familiar, so it was at least comforting to see friendly faces in the audience...we wrapped up the intros quickly and got 2 suprise guests to speak in addtion...One was Derdana Ansari of the BBC who had just arrived from Pakistan and told us very movingly about the the things she had witnessed...Also Adam Khan suprised us with his arrival, I didnt know enough about Grand prix driving to introduce him properly, he drives for Pakistan ...but he was a good sport!!! Still don't know who is getting the dinner with him that he auctioned!!!If ur having dinner with him can u let me know?

The fashion show began to music by Talvin Singh...considering the short notice they had to put something together..the models did great!!! Honey really pulled a rabbit out of the hat by getting Jeff Mirza to come down and amuse us...we were in hysterics!!!
The second segment of the fashion show commenced and people starting to have dinner.

The food was excellent, hot and fresh out of the kitchen next door...people were complaining that the portions were too big!!!! Everyone mingled and chatted to their friends...Roomi kicked off the auction telling us of his experiences out in the earthquake zone and I was impressed that the grey pearl set sold for ?150....I was doubly happy that It was for me!!!Aminaart's art was certainly a hit!!! Thank you so much Amina!!! Humanseasons' designer outfits started a bidding war!!! Roomi had to pick an assistant and chose yehbandishan who was over from the usa...with irfani...(i'll never look at a king prawn in the same way!Remember the advice from the bouncer...maybe smaller pieces next time?lol...Also Afaq definately is a HERO!!) Fitnessman and Hustler, thanks for offering to help out...

The room was full of colours...red, blue, pink, green...saris, lehangas, shalwar kameezes...salsa took everyones breath away...including london_male...who was breathing deeply into his mic following the performance...then to our suprise the dance floor filled up with ppl wanting to do the salsa class...lol...

Jackal from clubAsia, Adil Hashmi and espressions hit the floor and the bhangra kicked off...after their performance there was more music from Nush...the crowd was loving it..no one wanted to leave!!! At 12.30am we finally cleared the hall and went home...no one could sleep so we stayed up chatting and re-living some of the jokes!!! After 3 hours sleep, I was back at work on Monday morning...but this Monday I had a big smile on my face!!! (A)

It was a great event and I really enjoyed meeting y'all! Jeff Mirza's appearance was a nice surprise - I'd appreciated his material on TV before. Gorgeous fashion, but I had to leave early so I missed the salsa... Did you guys have a good boogie? ;)

rofl.. for humanseasons' benefit... the pre event dinner PRAWN fiasco involved me and a PRAWN.. NOT porn.. thanks for the mention nads!

big thanks to nads and shaz (fun_ny and honey911) for being so competent in the lead up and on the day (made me look good too ) and for all our friends and fellow volunteers for persevering when we ran with the 'chaos' method of management

special mentions to ..... ambreen (yehbandishain), afaq, morals, humanseasons, metroman, londonmale, aminaart, sharini, dija - all of you went above and beyond the call of duty and while smiling/ managing not to whinge.. which is utterly priceless..

plus ..... dj nush and chorichori, mrs. ansari, nads' parents, the high commission, rehan, jeff mirza, dj jackal et al.... gosh i bet there are 100 more.. will add to the list and thank you all properly later.

most of all thx to my sis ifrah for being able to put together a fashion show in a flash (and also i believe getting the most wolf whistles while modelling )+ thx to her hardworking model mates (happy.. that cheesy bollywood move actually has its fans lol)

cant believe i threw a party (my first) and it went with a bang.. and we had the energy to bhangra till late - morals if u want the pics to stay off naseeb i'll need a BIG charity donation

will keep you all updated on the charity proceeds once theyve been hunted/ counted/ and hopefully doubled (by our generous employers)

- if anyone would like to provide us with feedback either as a guest or particpant/ volunteer please mail me.. would be much appreciated.
