*SPOILER* do you think xx is good or evil?

After he seemingly betrayed us all at the end of the book, was Snape somehow carrying out Dumbledore's orders by killing him? So is he inherently on the good side?

OR

is he just evil and completely betrayed Dumbledore's trust?

I happen to think that he's just evil, but we don't really know the true story until the 7th book!

What do you think?

I dont think Snape was trying to protect Harry but remember in Book 5 he did agree to teach Harry about Occulmency even though it was on Dumbledores orders. I think in the end it would be funny if Snape and Harry actually are on the same side and defeat Voldermort. I still think Dumbledore will be involved in Harrys life even after his death- if you remember all the past Hogwarts headmasters pictures were in his office and those past headmasters were always there to do Dumbledores bidding so I wont be suprised if Dumbledores portrait guides Harry. I didnt mean Dumbldore coming back like Headless Nick or Peeves but as a side character now.
Snape is just another character i think he will help Harry inthe downdall of VOldermort or else i think J. K Rowling would have killed him off by now dont you think? Just review all the books for a second - Snape has been in every book whereas other characters have either left Hogwarts or been killed dont you think its ironic that Snape is still there? I mean Harry has enough to deal with Voldermort but Snape and Malfoy also ? I think there is a suprise waiting in Book 7

I like Nabila's reasoning better. That makes more sense. That's what I thought too when I read the story. I never got the impression that Snape was trying to protect Harry in any way. I just thought he was being his usual cruel mean self.

maybe it's not a lame excuse, because at the end of book 4 Voldemort DID need Harry's blood to come back to power. Maybe he needs Harry again for something similar. Or else, maybe Voldemort wants to finish Harry off himself after so many years. Harry was, after all, Voldemort's downfall and he would want to get the satisfaction of finishing him off himself.

While Harry was chasing Snape one of the Death Eaters attacked him and Snape told him to stop cos "Potter belongs to the Dark Lord." which sounded like a pretty lame excuse for not finishing him off. He could have let the Death Eater do his business and be done with it!!

hmm... I don't get it. When did Snape save Harry's life in Book 6? Wasn't Snape trying to kill Harry? You mean by blocking Harry's curses and not throwing any himself? hmm... I don't know...

I don't think Dumbledore will come back as a ghost. That'd be too weird, though, I don't think he's gone from harry's life altogether. I don't see any other role model for Harry but Dumbledore. Prof. Mcgonagal is great, but she's not as wise as Dumbledore and Harry and her are not on the same level as him and Dumbledore either.

I think that because of the Unbreakable Vow Snape had to perform the task of killing Dumbledore. But are we 100% sure that he is dead even though he is buried in a White tomb - he may come back as a ghost. Also all of the events that occurred in Book 5 "Order of the Phoenix" might have been leading up to his all those secret missions Snape was being sent on - he might be evil on the outside and good on the inside - He did save Harrys life and was trying to save all three in Book 3 when Lupin became a werewolf- after they learned the truth about Sirius Black. I think J.K Rowling is trying to drive the point about "not juding a book by its cover" with Snape since we all agree he is "evil" but people change and i think she is using him as an example of the changes. Look at Harry - he used to be so sweet yet in Book 5 and Book 6 he is showing his temper more then once so things change. Lets wait til book 7 .
Cant wait for the movie for Book 4 I really want to know who is playing Voldermort. Does anyone know? Have you seen the previews - looks AWESOME

S :)

True. And remember at the end of Book 4, when Dumbledore realized he should've told Harry as much about the past as possible, but he did exactly what Voldemort wanted him to do, he wanted to protect Harry and shield him from his past.

dumbledore said that because he's the smartest of all, he makes the biggest errors too. he said that to harry. so harry asked if hiring snape was a mistake so dumbledore said no. that COULD have been one of those huge mistakes dumbeldore was talking about.

I'm just wondering, didn't it BOTHER anyone how quickly in Book 6 we learned of Snape's history? I mean I was reading it and thinking "ooookay, that was fast" haha, because we've all alwayzzzz wanted to know more about Snape, and there it all was. Bam. I'm sorry, but that just made me suspicious. :P Also, this is going to sound even stupider, but I really cannot fathom the idea that Dumbledore could be so wrong. Can anyone really imagine him saying "Oh...my bad." Nope. Perhaps this is just another extent to which Snape had to go and act as a spy for the good guys? But...to kill Dumledore? *cries* Also, I don't know if maybe this is all wishful thinking on my part, but remember when Harry was forcing Dumbledore to take the drink, on the latter's order? Well, Rowling used the words "hating and repulsed by what he was doing." And remember Snape's face was described as full of "hatred and revulsion" when he killed Dumbledore. That might be a parallel between the two. Harry described Dumbledore's voice as "pleading" when he said "Severus, please" or something.

Thus ends my extremely odd comment. I'm not saying Snape is good, YUCK, I've never liked him. I'm just a ittle suspicious of how obvious everything is.

oops my bad... i meant to say at the end of book 6... when he lets him live so the Dark Lord can finish Harry off himself.

Hey Salman, how do figure Snape actually saved Harry at the end of book 7? help us out with this connection?

another reason I think Snape is not evil is cos he did save Harry's life at the end of book 7 when Harry was chasing Snape.

Hiddensmiles, Snape didn't really have a choice with the unbreakable vow because he needed to convince Bellatrix. She suspected him and I guess Snape didn't want anyone poisoning Voldemort's mind with the fact that he might be on the good side. Bellatrix was shocked when Snape agreed to the vow. I'm just playing devil's advocate here - I still hate Snape and think he's evil.

SALMAN-
Yeah but he IS evil to make such a vow.
hmmm, unless he made that vow on Dumbledore's orders? Its just Dumbledore CAN'T be so off the mark concerning Snape's character. I think we're in for a funky twist in Book 7.

Don't think Snape is evil, he had to kill Dumbledore cos of the unbreakable vow he had made.

I vote for plain evil, that Rowling has been building up to the Snape/Potter showdown, to be settled in book 7 (stay tuned). I really hope she doesnt pull funny stuff, like bringing back dead people in book seven but rather expand on others storyline (seems like theres something more to know about neville)
