Sponsoring an Iftar at ICSD?
Salaam guys and girls,
Since ramadan is almost over our heads now, you all must be looking forward to the Iftar times (which happens to be my fav. time of the Ramadan).
The ICSD (Islamic Center of San Diego) typically offers free Iftar all month long which has been quite good-tasting in the past. I almost always break my fast there, kind of a nice break from outside food that I juggle down all year long (all you single guys out there know what I'm talking about).
The good news is that anyone could sponsor an Iftar at ICSD for about a $1000/night.
If we could gather up a few ppl who'd be willing to chip in $50/$100 or whatever, we could probably sponsor one or more nights...
What do you guys think?
PS: I think you get savab/ajar and stuff too on the side for doing this.

Lets meet up at ICSD on Saturday 10/8/05 to collect the money, especially those folks who have pledged or are interested in donating. We could have Iftar at the ICSD and then head out to the coffee bean (very close) or something.
PS: Coffee Bean is better than Starbucks, hands down.

I just found out from the ICSD that all the days are taken, which means though we have the money we won't be able to sponsor a night at the ICSD for Iftar. I think we should still meet up on Sat. and see if people have any other ideas as to how to spend the pledged/collected money. What do you guys think?

We can help sponsor a day at ICSD Oct 27.
Amena and Bader the president from UCSD MSA have that day already and need money.
Amena is a dear friend of mine and an awesome sister . She will be meeting with us tonight at 7:30 or so.
Also she is going to share with us information about 3 charity programs two of them are sponsored by Islamic Relief Fund and one is the annual Ramadan Iftar at UCSD to raise money for a local charity which costs $5,000.
Also, Sabrian suggested some Mosques in Orange County that she knows are very poor. I say we should totally stand for our intentions in donating this money for a community close to us first like in San Diego. " al aqrabon Awla bel ma3roof" The close relatives/community are first in sadaqa.

I like to participate in this iftaar sponsership. It is a great idea. If we already have $1000 that takes care of one day of Iftaar. How about we continue collecting and sponser for another day as well since they are ppl I myself know would be happy to paticipate, perhaps we can collect it for iftaar at another masjid?

T3mah, to keep things simple, is it possible for her to write a check in yoru name so u could put in cash instead? That way i think we'll have the whole amount in cash...

BTW, awesome work, we basically came up with 1 G in less than a week (H)
