SRK quits Smoking!!

I don't if you guys follow Bollywood news like i do lol, but when SRK turned 40 on Nov. 2nd he vowed he would stop SMOKING for a better life. Well if you all watched his documentary you all know that he's a chronic chain smoker!!! Every 5 seconds he would have a cigarette in his hands. Well now i guess INDIA is going top knotch in making him an ambassador for their smoke free life campaign. I don't know if he would be a good person to do this considering he just quit. I mean normally people who smoke like he does would cheat and smoke u know. I don't know i just feel it's a little hypocritical for him to take this stance considering he's been smoking for probably 25 years of his life. I don't know what do you guys think?

We got scolded in 5th grade for not standing up when a flag showed at the end of a movie we were watching. I think they played the National Anthem while it flapped in the breeze. They rewound it and made us all stand up, with our hands covering our hearts (rolling eyes).

I'm glad that they did, but...

Ha, ha! Nore, too funny. I used to see people burning our flag in foreign countries and I didn't see a problem with it. It's just scraps of material when it all comes down to it. Our country isn't that flag. No one is dying because that flag is burning (literally I mean) - well unless the dumb@ss burning it singes his hair or something and burns to death. But then during the 60s especially Americans themselves would burn the American flag in protest. I just don't see what the big deal about the flag is.

I'm so wrong, I know, but I don't have nationalism in my blood. I think it's makes us all Nazi soldiers, to be frank.

You poor thing, Nore. I'm sure the flag pole and that flag were heavy too. At least that's what I recall from childhood.

Nore, precisely. There was likely no statement being made by it, other than this is the way they are in their home.

I don't understand why people put such precedence on a mere book when it's GOD who is important. Even if we lost every Bible, Qu'ran and Torah tomorrow, do you honestly think we couldn't still get the Word of God/Allah to people??

It's how they did it prior to writing, and we'd do it again.

It's just a book when it comes down to it. God is the Holy Vessel and His Word is not only written on a few pieces of papers bound by a hard cover. I think a lot of religious pious people forget this.

Sofs, you have to remember his wife is Hindu. He is the Muslim. Obviously he is more tolerant or he wouldn't have married Gauri in the first place. His son and daughter will know both religions, and hopefully they will be better for it.

I think it's quite noble of him to use his status and fame to help others kick a habit. The very fact that he's smoked for so long - and I even know as a gori that he smoked like a chimney! - makes him a qualified candidate. Even if he "cheats" and takes another cigarette from time to time, it still doesn't make him a bad spokesman. In fact, I'd think that'd make him all the better for it.

The idea that even he cheats once in awhile, but then he goes right back cold turkey again afterward would perhaps gives others incentive?

i agree with u Tariq...im a huge fan of SRK and after i saw the documentary i kinda lost my appeal for him. I mean this is huge coming from someone like me. But the whole religion part of that documentary disturbed me...how dare he put the Quran next to Ganesh...i mean it's like two completely different things. I hated how his kid had a huge red sindhoor and was reciting the kalma! i dono he lost his personal touch towards me.

I didn't know that Shah Rukh was a smoker. I think he's the best person for this campaign

1. He's soo famous therefore he's influential at least his fans may get influenced esp. the younger generation.

1. Snce he had been doing interviews smoking away every1 who's a big fan would know that he's a chain smoker so it's encouraging ppl may think
WOW IF HE CAN QUIT SO CAN I!

3. Ppl. who may be a big fan & thought about smoking may think twice b/c not all the cool famous ppl are doing it - SRK quit!

I'm cool with a Quran next to a Hindu God, it teaches tolerance instead of hatred! :)

Actually, if he is sincere about giving up smoking, then I think he's a perfect person to take this stance - it will show other long time smokers that quitting is possible. I don't think I view it as hypocrital - just my 2 cents. :)
