Strange Message
A few days back, someone left this message in the guestbook of my website:
"Salamun 'Alaik Fear Allah ya akhi, Dont you fear that you might just meet the angel of death while you are in a state of disobedience to your creator? This is fasaad you are spreading throughout the land and by Allah this very same things will be a witness for you on yawm-al-hashr, We ask Allah to guide us to al haq and to destroy kufr and the kaafireen"
I am still trying to decipher what this anonymous individual is trying to say. If someone can enlighten me on this, I would be very obliged.

Blue glow, blue cap, serves me right for writing a reply with half open eyes :p
you are very right regarding the misconceptions about music and other art forms. actually these things have something to do with arab nomadic traditions and not islam. since the key thing in nomadic culture was survival, any finer art forms were considered unnecessary. as muslims started expanding into other areas, the conservatives tried to keep the nomadic ways of life alive by trying to invent religious justification for their cultural traits. ibn-e-khaldun has also talked about this in his book al-muqaddimah.
fortunately, all muslims did not accept this, and went on to contribute to music and fine arts in various times. as a matter of fact, modern form of guitar was invented by spanish muslims.
If I was devoid of understanding faith (which some would argue that I am), then I would say music is haram, poetry is the fuel of hell fire and art involves shirk.
Fortunately I know that the Prophet encouraged music and that the verse of the Quran in surah Luqman referred to people who were mocking Islam and not to music. Equally I also know that the poetry which was criticised was that where some individuals claimed that they too had inspiration (i.e. false prophets) and not poetry in general (despite my personal dislike for poetry). And thankfully I have sufficient comprehension to know that the mistranslation of the word 'images' from which people infer all drawings, artwork etc to be prohbited actually refered to the idols which the pagan arabs worshipped which is very different to drawing in general.
Now assuming that the above three are the reasons for this individuals comments, then the reverse is true. He should fear meeting the angel of death in his state of disobedience to Allah, particularly by misrepresenting the faith of Allah. He is the one who is spreading fassad (corruption) in the lands, and you will be a witness to his spreading of corruption because he has made a comment on your guestbook.
So we reply, that indeed we ask Allah to guide us to al-haq (the truth), to destroy kufr (disbelief) and the kafireen (those who disbelieve).
Funnily enough, on a slight technical point, the irony in his statement is to destroy someone who disbelieves, when in fact disbelief is the greatest destruction anyone can have - but thats another story.
More importantly, the proof of the weakness of this person's iman (faith) is the prayer which they made. Prophet Muhammad always asked Allah Almighty to have mercy and to guide people, even the worst of people. The example can be seen with the woman Hind, who in her pre Islamic days was the worst of women, so much so that she even chewed the liver of Hamza (the uncle of the Prophet) when he died, in an attempt to mock the Prophet and Islam. By the mercy of Allah, later in life, even such an evil woman had a change of heart, found faith, and lived the rest of her life as a good Muslim. So whilst someone may be the worst of people, we should still pray that Allah Almighty has mercy and guides them.
My advice, the only thing which needs changing is your photo - seriously whats with the black hair and black background, looks as if half your head is missing! Put on a photo with some light, you may as well let the girls swoon over you a little. :P
Don't worry about the commentator, nothing to be gained from his commet other than another proof that we muslims are naturally devoid of comprehension - and may Allah have mercy and guide us all, ameen.
choosa: you can see yourself, or take redhead's word that my website is completely innocent.
well its in the hadith that when you call someone a kafir it is true for one of the two of you..so if you're not a kafir then that automatically makes him one..so no worries
