Stream of Consciousness, Runs August 12-27
dos chicas theater commune presents
Stream of Consciousness: The Verge of Insanity
An assemblage of playlets by local scribes
by Bob Morgan in consortium with Paul Locklear, Rick Smith, Elizabeth Seabolt, Sophia Ansari. Directed by Victoria Trent.
THE STORY
dos chicas resident playwright Bob Morgan takes the idea of original shorts by local writers a step further with Stream of Consciousness: The Verge of Insanity. Rather than employing the disjointed, individualized approach to presenting playlets that other local festivals of shorts use, Morgan has taken ten short works by five writers and woven them into a unified script in which the pieces all flow together via short linking scenes and monologues involving the narrator for the evening. ?I love the concept of an evening of short original works, but I cannot stand the down-time in darkness between pieces. It completely takes you out of the theatrical experience for a minute, and then expects you to jump right back into it. It?s like driving in stop-and-go traffic.? Never one to shy away from the unusual, Morgan called upon other writers he knew to create short works not typically seen in local theaters. ?All they were told was to make it funny, give it an edge and nothing is sacred or off limits.?
The featured writers are Morgan, Paul Locklear, Rick Smith, Elizabeth Seabolt and Sophia Ansari. The cast of ten playing 42 roles, aka ?The Snappy Pants Players,? is David Anderson, Julie Boneau, Mark Carrier, Tony Esparza, Jon Harvey, Carole Kelly, Bob Morgan, Elizabeth Seabolt, Cecil Trent and Anne Zimmerman.
