Part Two: 10:30am to 11:00am - Adab of the Seeker
Imam Zarnuji's Instruction of the Student (Ta'lim al-Muta'allim Tariq al-Ta'allum)
This is a remarkable volume that touches upon the method by which students of the classical Muslim world learned their studies in a traditional way. Its author, Imam al-Zarnuji, has attracted the attention of Western men of learning for centuries, as they tried to decipher the secret behind the stunning educational success of Islamic civilization. Imam al-Zarnuji is known by the agnomen Burhan al-Islam al-Zarnuji, which became so closely associated with him that his actual name is not known for sure. However, collections of biographies have him as al-Nu'man ibn Ibrahim al-Zarnuji. He hails from Zarnuj, a well-known town beyond the river Oxus in what is now Turkistan. He studied with many teachers including: the illustrious Shaykh 'Ali ibn Abi Bakr al-Marghiyani al-Rushdani (the author of al-Hidaya); Shaykh Abu al-Muhamid Qawaduddin Hammad ibn Ibrahim al-Saffar; the great Shaykh hasan ibn Mansur Qadiykhani; and others.
(Text available for a nominal cost of $12.00)
Part Three: 11:00am to 11:30am - Hanafi Fiqh (Tahara, Salah, Zakat, Siyam, Hajj, Marriage & Divorce)
Perhaps al-Quduri's most famous work, Al-Mukhtasar is also known as al-Kitab. The number of issues it addresses is 12,500, spanning the entire spectrum of fiqh, for the book covers not only matters of worship, but also business transactions, personal relations and penal and judicial matters. Abu `Ali al-Shashi said about the book, "Whoever memorizes this book is the best accomplished of our associates in memorization, and whoever understands it is the best accomplished of our associates in understanding."
Upto this day, the book enjoys a wide acclaim, still forming a part of the teaching curriculum in many traditional madaris, and with prominent and accomplished contemporary scholars continuing to recommend and approve it as a teaching text.
(Dars copy available for a nominal cost of $5.00)
Suitability: The Dars is open to all brothers and sisters.
Suggested Fee:
There is a nominal monthly fee of $25.00/person, collected at the first dars every month. No one will be turned away for a lack of funds, so please give what you can afford.
