4. Denver Broncos vs. Carolina Panthers

yes, denver should rest the players and prepare for the home game against cincinnati.

i'd pick up ron dayne for the last week if possible. he did well against the chargers in their first meeting and will probably start in the next weeks game.

errr.. that might be a problem... looked like he twisted his ankle during the game and he didn't play much of the second half. i bet shanahan will rest most of his first team players in the (meaningless) last game at san diego. better for u to start someone else next week.

no team is going to be doing much running when they're down 16-0 in the middle of the third quarter. i didn't say run stopping wasn't a factor. i said that it alone isn't a big enough factor to stop the pass-happy offense of the colts.

bengals vs colts and colts vs pats wud get great ratings too in the AFC. Prolly the only thing that will get a great rating in the NFC is the Giants game cuz of the bigger market. and maybe the Bears. chicago folks might just think they can get two major champiosnhips hehe. certainly possible with that D in town.

Anyone that prognosticates that any team will beat the Colts this season is just going out on a limb. Of course on Any Given Sunday, a lesser team may pull out an upset (see: San Diego Chargers), but this year's Colts team will be favored against yours and my team everytime they line up.

Currently, the only team the Colts should seriously worry about is the reigning world champ New England Patriots, who finally have their D at full strength, and are led by perennial winner Tom Brady. The Patsies are coming on strong at just the right time and strangely enough do not have the normal target on them a repeat champion should have. Its unreal actually that the Pats have flown below the radar due to the Colts magical season.

My early super bowl prediction: Patriots vs Seahawks in the lowest rated Super Bowl of all time.

reverse:

it wasn't just the pass rush, but the pass rush was a big part of it. without it, stuffing the run wouldn't have made a difference. i've never seen manning pressured so much this season. usually when the run isn't working, he is lounging behind his linemen in the pocket picking apart defenses with his throws.

i agree with tanveer in that it was more of a combination of all three aspects (the third being a good secondary), but the pass rush is what really stood out because that is what pressured manning to throwing early and throwing off his usual accuracy.

and denver can bring it all too. they have a much better secondary than the chargers. i couldn't believe that jammer of all corners appeared to be doing such a good job on harrison. a good pass rush makes the job of the secondary that much easier.

true that these are all predictions, but your prediction that the broncos will be a walkover for the colts (as they have been the past two years) is based more on history than anything else.

tanveer:
i'm only saying what the commentators were saying during that game. quentin may have been a bust, but the similarity in size and the way he was juking colts defenders that day was barry sanders like.

problem wasn't the chargers' pass rush, it was the run D. the pass rush was what it was cuz the colts' running game never got off the ground.

it isn't like the broncos haven't beaten the colts in the recent past. in both the past two years, they beat the colts in regular season games. last year's game was meaningless to the colts, but the year before that, the broncos thrashed the colts in indy. in that game, clinton portis was injured but quentin grif ran all over the colts doing barry sanders like moves. they beat them in another game this preseason when manning played much of the game. yeah it was a meaningless game, but you can tell how badly manning hates to lose (leaves a foul taste in his mouth).

it's been done plenty of times before and it will be done again this year. darrent williams will be back by then to support bailey (i hope we never have to see roc alexander covering reggie wayne again) and the broncos have a much better pass rush. you saw how chargers handled manning with their pass rush. poor guy... looked like he was about to cry on the sidelines.

Yeah I recall Terrell Davis and John Elway. Those dudes are long gone. In case you've missed some of John Elway's television ads, he looks about 60 years old now. That's how long ago 97 and 98 w.r.t. today's NFL.

what i don't get is how easy you ppl find it to compare teams and players to past teams and players.. there is no way in hell u can do that objectively. if u compare to the years 97 and 98, all i have to say is dolphins 72. so that means everyone else EVER can just go to hell cuz nobody else has ever had a perfect season so they cannot b good enuf to be compared to the dolphins. so please dont start comparing. there is no point to it.

ahsan, do you recall the years 1997 and 1998? perhaps you should.

unfortunately we will not overlook this loss of the colts - a loss that revealed the chinks in the celebrated colts armor.

i find the colts fan attempt to downplay this loss and point to denver's 13-0 season in which they went on to win the super bowl highly amusing. what will the colts fans say next? payton manning is as good as john elway? james is as good as terrel davis? horseshhhh...oes!!!

Despite today's set back, the Colts' D does not allow long drives for TDs, let alone 4 of them. Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne will be way too much for Chump Bailey and Domonique Foxworth. Does anybody recall how Denver's season ended the past couple seasons? After losing starting DBs in December, those seasons have ended with ugly losses inflicted by Peyton Manning and the Colts in the playoffs.

congrats broncolanders, denver is in the playoffs!

with the chiefs losing today as expected and the chargers probably losing tomorrow, denver will also have the AFC West crown

i think shanahan has already started to get ready for the colts. plummer looked great throwing the ball and they controlled the clock. 4 long consecutive drives for touchdowns - exactly what they'll need against the colts.
